All of you lack a heart... and on Christmas to boot...:(
I'm not disagreeing with what you said, but the christmas reference annoys me.
If you are a christian (and I'm not) then surely the idea is to be a forgiving person all year long, not just at christmas. Anything else is hypocracy.
What happens after you have reproduced and your kids are grown up can have a slight bearing on natural selection. Grandparents help look after children and can supply emotional and finacial support too, which does increase the chance of their DNA surviving another generation.
If this guy was still able to help his kids out financially then perhaps they would be able to afford to have bigger families, spreading this guys DNA even further.
With a bit of luck his kids will realise that their dad isn't the sharpest tool in the box and they will decide not to have kids to prevent the DNA going any further.
Am I right in thinking that the PSUs in a PC supply 12v power?
If so could a PC be run from 12v batteries without needing an inverter?
Has anyone seen any good articles on this?
Someone mentioned a feature on laptops where it could switch to an underclocked state when running off battery power. Could this be used on a PC too?
One advantage that does spring to mind, if you have a flourescent bulb and it goes you have no light. If you have a cluster of white LEDs and one goes you just have less light.
Good point. After running a redhat box for a long time I got fed up with the lack of games (I live with two windows using gamers), so I set up a dual boot system with xp. After having the choice of what packages to install on redhat it was weird to install windows were it just installs everything whether you want it or not.
If grandma and joe sixpack want to subsidize processor R&D so I get prettier games, faster audio/video compression, compilation, and encryption for cheap I'm not going to complain.
Good point. If it was only serious gamers buying fast chips they would be a damn sight more expensive. It's all those people buying chips far faster than they will ever need who help get the prices down.
I'm a linux user and I live in a house with two windows using gamers. There are hundreds of windows games in the house and the temptation is too strong. I'm going to set up a dual boot system on my pc and I was wondering which windows distro is the best.
My friends use xp because it networks well and they like the features. I'm not concerned about networking and I won't be using it for anything apart from games. I want something fairly minimal and I was wondering if 98 can be brought up to scratch.
Wierd film. One night I had had a smoke and thought I'd see what was on the idiot box. El Topo came on and seriously messed with my head. I want to get this film and show it to my mates when they are stoned.
What would happen if life was discovered on europa. Would we stay off the planet and let nature take it's course or would we be down there taking samples ?
Best place to look. We also have culture and history.
:-)

Maybe trying to explain things to them isn't the best idea, not every one will grasp something unless they see it. It may be easier for them to comprehend if you actually go round to their place and give them a demo.
I personally would set people up with firebird. It's a slick looking browser and that will impress a lot of people. If you sit them down and gently guide them through tabbed browsing it will all make sense. Popup blocking can be demonstrated by challenging them to find a website with a popup (if they like to look at porn they will notice a huge improvement).
How could making an installer be more important than making the brower faster.
I think a proper installer is a very high priority. I'm a linux user and use and I am quite happy using tar, but I've got a lot of friends who use windows and don't have the skills to install software that doesn't have an installer.
With an installer these people can download and install it themselves and then they can tell their friends, who can do the same. Mozilla usage can increase at an exponential rate. Without the installer mozilla would only be available to the technically savvy and their close friends.
A while back I was skint and didn't have a working computer. I cobbled together a system with a 300mhz celeron chip, 2 gig hard drive and a pci graphics card. I could browse the web and play some old games, lot's of fun.
I've got a good system now (running redhat) but I'm thinking about digging up the old girl and playing with it again.
I have my doubts that a statue and a museum devoted to the props from a single movie, no matter how popular that movie was at the time it was released, could be that much of a draw.
You'd be surprised. I'm a blacksmith and I was fascinated by the armour and weapons in the films. I have a lot of artist friends who are very impressed with the incredible work and attention to detail that went into every aspect of the films.
I'm not saying that I would go all the way to new zealand just for the museum, but it would definitely be an added incentive to go there.
And you know the middle path and your parents didn't?
I'm a damn site closer to the middle path than my parents. They are Christian fundementalist (no sex before mariage, no alcohol, no drugs, no swearing, disaproval of homosexuality etc.etc.). Not middle path by any stretch of the imagination.
When your children grow up they will no doubt claim you didn't know what you were doing and claim they know better.
Very likely. Rebelling against your parents is a natural part of growing up.
What if daddy buys them a copy of the game himself? How about all the kids buying drinks with fake IDs? Won't they use the same fake IDs to get these games if they want?
True, but at least the games industry has it's ass covered.

I've just noticed the link that Darco supplied and it does have a power supply for a PC that runs off 12V. Very useful.

At first glance I read your name as Chandra. That would have been very appropriate.

I would like to find a firebird rpm for redhat with flash included. Anybody seen one?
Are you saying that IE has it's faults but supports W3C standards better than mozilla?
Webster's defines "computer" as "One who computes."
Webster's defines "compute" as "To determine calculation; to reckon; to count."
I can do these functions, therefore I can compute, therefore I am a computer. QED.

I'm surprised that wasn't said sooner :-)
Then adults wouldn't have to put up with watered down films and the under 18s would still have something to watch.
In this age of digital film it wouldn't be that hard to do, would it?
