That makes me immediately think of Full Metal Alchemist, as I've been watching far too much of it this weekend. How long is it going to be until we have talking dogs and lizard-tailed men?
Perhaps this is why I have been having lots of connectivity problems with the (classic) server for the last week or two; after several years of almost no problems and several thousand completed work units. Often times it would take at least several tries to just get a new work unit.
Guess I should get the new BOINC client and see if that alleviates my problems, anyone know if this new client is more capable of maintaining a connection to the server to get/send data units?
Yup, this is Texas, where the Southern Baptists worship at the alter of the pigskin on Friday nights.
Hence why the local news devotes half of it's entire nightly segment for high school football whenever it is even close to football season. They will probably start that up again in a couple more weeks...
If they really wanted to do this neat, they would stream the data live to a website, rather than can up the data until they are ready to release it.
The problem with doing that is some crazy will look at the data and 'see' proof that we never went to the moon and that the fall of the Roman empire was due to aliens being afraid of Christians.
And yet the night before their surrender, many of the soldiers attempted to stop word of the surrender from getting out and even attempted to kidnap the emporer. The only reason why they did not succeed, which would have meant either more atomic bombs (I believe 3 or 5 more would be dropped, including one on Tokyo) or an invasion that was estimated at a million dead Allies and at least three million dead (mostly civilians) Japanese, was that an air raid by B-29s on Tokyo allowed some wise and honorable Japanese men to hide the recorded announcement from the soldiers attempting the coup.
IMO although it was unfortunate that those hundred(s) of thousands of Japanese people had to die, it was far better than over a million Allied soldiers and an estimated 3 million dead Japanese, though that number probably would approach 10 million within a year or two after the war finally ended. Also dropping the two atomic bombs then was much better than waiting, because that was all the nuclear material the United States had at the time, and had they waited they might have instead dropped even more (as was at least one plan to end the war in the Pacific).
In my family and circle of friends I'm both the "computer guy" and the "car guy", so I can say that car mechanics get quite a few requests for fix-its, but nearly as many.
As the computer guy I go through the same thing, even friends of friends will at times try to hit me up with requests to fix their computer. At least some of my family, though only those that have had to pay $100+/hr for help, understand that it takes time and effort and will pay me something for my time, being a poor student $20/hr is something I'll jump on.
As for cars and such I will generally help just the people I know well, though they have to buy everything in advance and bring their car to me. As for everyone else they'll get advice and verbal help, but that's about it.
From my experiences people expect far more from their "computer guy" than from their mechanic. Many find the thought of bringing their computer over to you is absurd and expect you to go to them, without even having the proper tools, yet they will gladly bring everything to a mechanic.

If Valve is going to force everyone whom purchases Half-Life 2 to use Steam to "verify" that their copy is legit, then I will probably just pirate it.
Plain and simple, I don't like forced activation to play a legitimately purchased game, and I will not financially support such activity.
I'd rather play a game of `Catch the drips in a bucket or drown'. That just rings of a good time!

I still have Die By the Sword in an old cd-rom drive that I occasionally use, that game took a good many hours of my time but it was well worth it. :)
I have been doing this for years, and not just to hulking brutes but pretty much everyone!
