Mhz or Ghz is somewhat meaningless when used to determine the "speed" of the CPU anywas.
While I don't mind them using another number to identify the CPU, I'm not sure if its a good idea to use "1600" on a 1400 mhz CPU because their marketing department feels its as fast as a 1600 mhz Intel P4.
"In a preferred embodiment, the user directs the Internet browser to a Internet clinical services provider web site computer and logs in to the site using an identifier and a secure password and optionally makes a selection of the type of servicing desired, wherein an automatically-executing software package encapsulated within a markup language communication unit deliverable across the Internet is delivered, to the user computer, the automatically-executing software package being adapted to perform security, management, or optimization functions on the user computer."
Isn't that what Microsoft's Windows update does ? Or better said, isn't that what Microsoft's Windows update tries to do?
I used to have regular DSL before I moved. I was roughly 5k feet from the CO and the connection was good.
While I was at my old house Bellsouth came in the area and put in FITL (Fiber in the loop?). Basically this is fiber all the way to a green box in the back of your house (1 green box feeds like 3-4 houses). From the green box to the CO is all fiber. Now with this setup they where offering digital cable & "PC-Data" which is a 10BaseT connection from the green box to your computer (Throttled down to 1.5mbit). When I moved to my new house, the new development had the same green boxes & FITL (The guy who installed the POTS lines confirmed this).
I was pretty sure I would be able to get some type of high-speed Internet access, but unfortunately that was not the case. Throughout the process of trying to get DSL/PC-Data I have found out that they installed all this hi-tech/fiber equipment configured for only POTS Service (no Video/PC-DATA/ISDN/anything else...). I have personally opened up the boxes & told a friend who works for Bellsouth the #'s on each card in there & he has confirmed this. So now I'm basically screwed, nobody can give me service there. The only thing I can think of is that they are waiting for more people to move in to justify the expense for the other cards?
I've been thinking about satellite service, would like to hear from anybody who has it.
Anyways, ironically I guess, my cousin who lives 4 blocks from me is setup like the poster. Her phone line is fiber from the central office to a box in the area & then copper to her house. She had no problem getting DSL, go figure.
It should be up to me what traffic I want to block, not my ISP. If I were an Above.net customer I would be looking for another ISP. I'm suprised their customers let them get away with that crap.
Hmm, how did that space get in there..
Damn, can't get rid of it, just take out the space to the link or click here
BTW, is it just me or is slashdot super slow today?
I think the best thing is to have everything run in conduits. That way, you can easily add new wires / remove old ones.
The problem with running everything in conduit is the price (much more $$$), and you have to do it while the house is being built (unless you want to tear down walls..)
I think the 2nd best thing to do is run 2 or 3 Cat5 (or better, cat 6?) wires everywhere, even for the phone jacks. That way you have spares incase you want to add a network jack somewhere.
Some people might think about fiber also. I'm not sure as to the costs/benefits. I think fiber is a pain to run (it can't be bent to much, can't be pulled to hard,...)
Also, don't forget the coax for cable TV, and speaker wires for the cool surround sound system:), maybe even wires for cameras so you can see the pizza guy at your door from your TV:)
"11:01 a.m. Well, I just checked www.westernion.com and he wasn't lying, he sent the funds. I got the tracking number and he paid by cash so I can pick up the money without an ID. Secret question/answer was "what's your mother's maiden name?" Answer was "tu madre." "
Can you really pick up money from Western Union without an ID? I checked their website and their FAQ says:
"You may pick up your money transfer at any Agent location. You will need to complete a "To Receive Money" form with the following information: name, address, telephone number, amount expected, as well as the sender's name, telephone number, city and state being sent from. Valid identification is also required. Some restrictions may apply."
Seems fishy...
I also found this interesting:
"Screw the Feds, they are lazy they won't trace me back that far. Plus I got *67 on, they'll need subpoenas to, and a ton of tracing to even get close to me."
I'm pretty sure *67 doesn't work on some ISDN/PRI Lines (which many ISP's used). I know for a fact it didn't work at a local ISP here (I tested it personally).
"Inaccurate information must be corrected or deleted, assuming you can prove it's inaccurate and the CRA agrees it's inaccurate, but the CRA is not required to remove accurate data from your file unless it is outdated. "
Why should I have to prove its innaccurate? Shouldn't the company that put the information in there prove its accurate?
How would you prove something is inaccurate? (i.e. something in there that says you owe $ to some company you never heard of that is now out of business)
I found this sentence from the article interesting:
"Why won't hackers undermine the metering technology, as they have undermined copy protection in the past? Because there will be no incentive to do so. "
One of the best reasons I have ever hacked something is "because it can be done"
Metering technology can be hacked. Because of this, it will be hacked.

"That was the biggest mistake since Gweedo shoots first"
Yea, your right. I think they just patented a new CodeRed Variant..

How can they prevent someone from just taking a screen capture?
:)
Actually, taking a screen capture would probobly be your last resort, I'm sure there are 20 other ways to copy a "protected content web page"
Hmm, but, if it can't be screen captured, then how did they make that demo

what if your good and come in as a new user ? People will think your new and thing your not good. Hmm.. kinda like bluffing?

They showed this back in June in Tech-Ed in Orlando, FL.

How could they have forgotten Leisure Suit Larry?
Back in the day this was as close to pr0n as you could get on your computer.
Look at us now pr0n is everywhere, all thanks to Leisure Suit Larry
Ok, maybe not...
Can you stick them in a microwave for a nice light show?
How about those "The phone company wants to charge per minute on modem use." Those seemed to go around every so often..
hmm, how about all those "send password via email" websites.. Wonder how many let you see their members id & email address.. (ICQ??)
