I'm appalled that our government would waste so much money on something that could easily be done in the private sector. In fact, the last time I
heard, they were actively competing with a private sector team in order to see who would first decode the human genome.
This is pure science. The government should fund pure science. Technology is what the private sector should fund.
I for one would love to give it a go, but every site I've looked at described hundreds of hours of studying and tests and tens of thousands of dollars in
equipment.
Is there any way to build a cheap but effective setup? Maybe in the $1000 range?
The tests are not that hard. If you know basic electronics, you can pass the Tech and General exams with a few hours of study. Here are practice tests It takes about 30 Hours to learn the Morse Code for Tech+ and General tickets, but you only need that for the HF bands.
You can pick up a Icom-706MKIIg rig for about $800 used and it should be all the radio you will ever need.
Satellite: Yeah, as soon as a few thousand/million people start logging onto these crap sattelites that are really 1980's
technology someone realized could route internet packets, you'll start to realize just how invalid this option is.
Um, they use transponders. You can use any type of new modulation methods you like with them. That still won't fix the lag problem, until we get faster than light communication.
I believe I used this on a Tandy Color Computer 3... I was, um, 14?
It was a good learning experience.
You are correct. You could use OS-9 level 1 on the CoCo 1/2 and Level 2 on the CoCo 3. There are still people using and extending OS-9. One of the extended versions is NitrOS-9.
OS-9 was my first 'real' operating system. Real Time, Multi-User and Multi-Tasking all in less than a 512k of RAM on a 2Mhz processor. I still have a copy of the C compiler for it:)
the next step... is probably isolating the 8000 Taliban fighters that have moved to the Uzbekistan (sp?) border. They could be easily cut off in this
area.

We will not use Nukes. It is the wrong tool. We will go to Afghanistan and take their land. We will put in place our own puppet government that does not like religous radicals.
This is WW3. It going to be long, hard and alot of people are going to die.
We will not allow these assholes to take out freedom and live in a police state.
I would be willing to bet that you picked up Channel 2. I forgot their old callsign, but it's now WKRN. Channel 2 is near 52Mhz and the MUF can rise that high at times.
I for one have had all the patches installed and STILL been hacked. I keep charts of what is installed and when because my boss
demands it...that and I don't want to be caught empty handed when something like this happens.
After you ran Service Pack 2, you still have to do the hotfixes. Simply remove.ida.idq and.printer from your Applications mappings and you won't have to worry about it again.

Just because your north of the Mason-Dixon line dosen't make it right.
With larger fish finally jumping into the waters of Internet connectivity, is there still room for
smaller companies? I would think that any new ISP would not be able to survive by solely providing dial-up service, and
would need to look into the possibility of providing DSL or cable connectivity. However, providing broadband
connectivity is a significant and expensive venture, made even more difficult considering the current economic
conditions.
Three friends and I started an ISP about a year and a half ago. We have made some money with dialup, but by far have made more money with webhosting and programming services. With DSL there is _NO_ way to make money unless you charge about the same price as a frac T1. The telco's have you over a barrel and are not willing to resell the service for a reasonable price. My suggetion to you, don't do things that can't pay for themselves. You can't stay in business if you do not break even.
I worked KC4AAA the other night on 20 Meters (Around 14.238Mhz) The station operator's name is Skip. You can hear them on the air almost every night.

No, neither of them did. All good southerners know that Nathan Stubblefield invented radio in 1892.
Wasn't the first the Tandy COlor COmputer?

Just asking, this is not flamebait, but is offtopic.
I'll vote for a different business cycle. Tough to qualify for a mortgage (HA! right...) when you're between jobs three months out of every nine.
How about not borrowing money to purchase a house, car or pizza. You don't know what real freedom is until you are debt free.
