Yeah... I actually get more junk snail mail than spam. Mostly it's Register.com telling me my domain is about to expires (4 months from now) and I need to call them to stop it. Jerks.
I wish they had the filters too. The comments complaining about the Bayesian, Beowolf, whatever comments actually far outnumber that of the original post.
I'd mod myself -1 for the Bayesian comment, but you should get -more for posting AC...
So far my Bayesian filter has been very effective in de-spamming me. Has anyone tried training one to filter out legitimate email and keep the SPAM? I suppose that's technically what it's doing anyway.
My company uses WebSense and filters out just about everything WebSense offers to filter. It's nice to know that I get 70% spam (vs. legtitimate) email in my Inbox but I cannot view a site that uses profanity. My virgin eyes...
However, that's what proxies are for...
In larger organizations they usually have a purchasing agreement and a custom HDD image anyway so all the licensing is handled before the laptop is even shipped. In my company, we don't use any Dell images and, in fact, our Dell machines are shipped with a CD and image that we have provided to Dell to ship with out machines (if that made any sense).
MySQL and PostgreSQL have entirely different purposes driving them. MySQL = fast, small, low-footprint at the sacrifice of features. PostgreSQL = full-featured at the sacrifice of performance (though, just a little performance).
So when you say a leap "ahead" of MySQL, you'll have to qualify that. Myself, I prefer PostgreSQL, simply because of the features. I USE MySql because it is fast a 99.9% of hosting providers offer no other alternative.
What's ironic is that the same old jokes keep getting moderated as +5. So, if all./'ers were sick of the jokes than that wouldn' happen. Unless, that is, there is a conspiracy that only people with strange senses of humor get moderation points. Hmmm... wouldn't that be all./'ers. At least nobody has made any fat/gross techie-head jokes.
I wonder if the ad in the middle of the article is from ZDNet or actually in Bill's memo...
(or course it was from ZDNet, but I wouldn't put it past Billy boy do drive advertisment dollars from his own employees)
This reminds me when we had an interviewee who pointed out a vulnerability in our web server (one guess: IIS) and said that if we hired him he would fix it for us. We told him he was lucky we didn't persue legal action against him and to never contact the company again. If he had been more tactful about it, we probably would have hired him for reasons other than the vulnerability. The vulnerability was already well-known anyway.
For some reason, I am surprised that nobody has attempted to hack into SCO and kill their servers or something. Not that I encourage anything like that but I figured they are real close to tramping on "hacker ground" and are eventually going to piss-off a very large group of them...
Just seems like something that would have happened... or perhaps they were smart and are running something like Open BSD and are really locked up tight...
What's really sad is that fact that some companies will probably pay up just because:
a) The cost of defending themselves is more
b) Microsost has already broken them. They are used to coughing up the doe.
... or my extensive collection of child por... oops.... Once again, I believe the article cites that fact that it will only involve copyrighted material of which you are not the artist. But, seeing how DirecTV is extorting people... why wouldn't the RIAA be any different. Actually, the DirecTV lawsuits make the RIAA look like the good guy...
I believe so. If you are SHARING a file then the lawman will be able to get your IP address, determine your ISP and then bully them into getting your name/address. If you are only downloading stuff then the task is nearly insurmountable because they would need to "snoop" on you and, thus, would need probably cause. Just don't give them any.
A vote for AC is a vote for socialism. But seriously, folks, less yappin' and more action! You should go show your local rep. what a real felony is... er... I mean write him a letter explaining why corporations suck.
I am quite certain that you don't have a Ferrari... you'd be too busy spit shining it to post to/. But your point, perhaps delivered in an awkward fashion, is valid. I always see people trying to blur the freedom to "do what I want with it 'cause I bought it" in as an excuse to steal it. Frankly, if you don't want to pay the fees then don't get the service. It certainly doesn't sustain life for you so ya don't need it. But it is FUN to steal it...
She's not being prosecuted for insider trading but for obstructing justice. Can't say that's any better for her... but it's a clarification. If I find the article, I'll post it... just too lazy to look now.
I guess they'll just have to attack smaller cities... probably anything other than New York, or D.C. at first. They'd be the first to implement such a plan. Not to mention, can GPS do elevation? Or is it stuck with lat/lon?
Am I wrong or does everyone else have a different definition of discrimination?
discrimination
n 1: unfair treatment of a person or group on the basis of prejudice
This is from a dictionary but I am sure the law books have a different definition. I'll bet that most of the web forms using this "Turing" test are not prejudice against blind people.

It's good to know that Unix/Linux programmers are following good code practice with comments, meaningful variable names, and maintainable code.

Also I would like to see where they got these numbers?
You don't suppose people actually click on that "Send" infor to MS button when XP crashes do you? I always wondered since I don't...

It isn't easy but the trick is to start with a nice small goat.

Duly Noted. Me grammer ain't too well and that.

Aren't they really the same thing? Solar Wind = Cosmic Raditaion? I am just guessing here.
