If we start to be more concerned to beat others we have stepped into the same trap as most company has done, suddenly it will become more important to release software that is rich of features and not solid as it should be. When the only thing is to make an OS/app as good as it can be, and not taking any notice about others we are on the correct path.
I think I read something that the whole bet was cancelled due to that oracle had used some features and shortcuts that made it a illegal benchmark. Anyone?
Why skip version number? Why not just fix the problems and release it as 1.3.7 when it is good enough?
But I think MS is using this system for version on NT, they first planned on NT5 but realized it was impossoble and they needed 1995 more releases before it was stable.
3 times faster to compile orbinaries that runs 3 times faster? I don't care if it takes longer to compile, the speed of the binary is far more important.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGH!

Bästa sättet att skilja på oss måste ju vara att vi svenskar kan spela hockey:)
Not all ERP systems needs customizations,I have installed several unmodified systems to customers. Most of them are satisfied with using the standard since it makes it easier to later upgrade (financials needs to be up to date they say:) )
To write a Free ERP is a task that will be what you makes it to be. You could writte for just a specific market or try to make a new SAP R/3 (which I don't recommend *s*)
One major problem with a Free ERP is that I think very few corporations are willing to take a chance with a new ERP system, not tested or anything else. Nad you can't sell a ERP system and don't have all parts working by the time.
ERP isn't easy,it takes a long time to develope and test.
GNU and FSF started as a project to create a FREE unix clone and RMS (among others) are getting worried that this issue is being forgotten. Today we don't think about this but still it is one of the most importent things about this. A free OS. To call it GNU/Linux we also make people aware of some greater things than just a cheap OS, it's about so much more.

This is my RedHat5.1 (with 2.0.35), quite stable I think...
