Sorry once I made and association of names I had to share. Instead of cause causing trouble for society as a whole like Markov, Micheal causes PR trouble for Microsoft thereby benefiting society.
If you play with the on-line version consider taking it multiple times. My type changed before and after coding. This got me interested in why it did and by playing with the back button, changing a few answers, and resubmitting it is possible to create a set to produce any of the 16 types.
If it is an algorithm book you are looking for, I highly recommend
Computer Algorithms: Introduction to Design and Analysis 3rd Ed
by Baase and Gelder. I just took my intro to algo course in which this was used as a text; it is very much readable and the examples really do illustrate the principles they claim to. It spans every thing from a base level introduction to NP-complete.
While it may not be an ideal solution to your problem, get the students behind you, write into the Exponent (student paper), post flyers, have e-mails sent, get grass-roots support going. As a student at Purdue myself, I sided with you as soon as I read about you plight and I'm sure others will as well. Everybody loves the underdog when it comes to challenge of arbitary enforced authority, you see that they don't go after the bookstores etc.
If the little radio buttons and click boxes at CNN were no enough, you should check out the microsoft web site. They have launched the Freedom to Innovate Network (apparently Freedom to Strong Arm Others already taken) It is an ultra-patriotic attempt at a grass-roots support for their cause, and it gets you a monthly e-mail news letter joy. Just imagine people who are going the sign up and let microsoft tell them it's side of the news.
Take a look at the policy issues while your there to, notice competition is #2 behind more copyright protection (protect Microsoft?). This subtle switch of the issues really is an amazing example of a typical Microsoft tatic.
Microsoft already is "helping" public school and universities. Recall the article posted on Slashdot about them giving thier software cheap to schools so that the next generation knows nothing but it. Any help from microsoft needs to be looked at for other motives.
White lies, lies, and statistics, the three levels of untruth in increasing order as per my stat instructor. It is amazing how things can be made to correlate. The Register has another piece upon the dangers of phones and it combines two things I would never have thought to be related: It's official: Mobile phones give you diarrhoea. I'm not even going to guess how they went about gathering information for this one.
I don't recall it saying anywhere that it was the teacher who turned him; unless, I missed it somewhere. I'm willing to wager that if she gave him a 100, she wouldn't turn him in too, but there was probably a horde of classmates in the adim. office after he read it allowed, everyone of them ready to be a documented case of emotional trauma
If he can not got in, they should do there best get to get free publicy as result of this with some from os stunt. consider wiring someone over 18 up with a video camera and two way mike do live feeds out while Mike acts as remote controller.
The gaming magazine PC Accelerator used to run a monthly section on things do to/with extra CDs. Of course the did the microwave one, but the waffle iron & belt sander yielded truly impressive results.
Back in July Slashdot had a story about a movie version of Nueromancer complete with a link to a movie web site. Now the site is gone and there is only a brief referance to it in the article.
To make use of nanoparts there needs to be a power source on scale with them. I know that some research has been done in exploiting the ADP-ATP cycle that cell use for power, but I can't recall a source to site. The basic structure was a ring of similar molecules with another jetting out the top. As the converstion from ADP to ATP took place the center one would be driven around the ring. Sorry for so few details, been a year plus since read the story
File a class action after every laywer that has ever filed a class action suit. Your Honor, because of my fear as being named as a defendent in a call action suit, I couldn't leave my house. It is not the fault of these people the law suits get filed they are just the clinically stupid bait for swarms of these lawyers. pretty soon we will have to sign a waiver for everything.
Computes are too powerful and have too many options for the average user. I can only speculate the amount of time the pointy-haired boss types spend deciding if the Power Pointer chart looks better with or without the bold face then calling up the tech people when he/she can change it back. The continuing increase in number of "little buttons" along the top of microsoft products only serves to increase the learning curve before they understand. Heaven help the coder whose boss discovered macros.
What has ever prevented big business for wrangling what they want? Is money an issue to Microsoft? Look what AOL does domains it doesn't like or wants for itself. This is good for stomping the smaller squatters, but I'm willing to bet that a back door can be purchased if the price is right. All Hail the Almighty dollar.
