      HALF of vol 6 got posted. (you obviously don;t know rough drafts. that's the one I'm currently attempting to write.)

      there is NO paradox here.
      Would YOU want to go to darkest africa, where the meds werew bull, the natives might eat you and they'd cheerfully KILL for your socks? (NA Indians got the death for that)

      urbanized: a clean water supply. (how's the home village doing, bucko?)

      civilized. No psychotic (cannibal) neighbors

      enlightened. (lemme see, there was this monk in med-evil Italy that could fly...)

    predicting is easy.... getting it right is tough. a notable trend is that you need to create a NEW orgiazation to get out from under the deadwood of an old. TV stations... before their production got centralized... is a GOOD example. second city TV is a handy one. go ahead, try to predict paradigmn shift in the blogsphere, I dare ya. packrat

    join the military. Tht gives me horror chills. Ever see the number of people killed by bad admin during any given war? --- squid is gonna kill me for that comment, too.
    I worked security for years. It was mostly politions giving out contracts to other politions (give yourself a 'we're world-class kluders' button here. It's typical of the breed. --- they ignored advice, (24 hours notice some damn fool had ticked the wrong kid off and they were gonna get burnt for it. And they did, badly.) stole credit, passed blame on the innocents,etc etc etc.
      a team atmospere, not competance, prevaded.

    ask your sec. person how many machines/users/ attacks or weird blibs in router traffic went by today. Then dig up the facts, including incidents, charges, convictions (resolutions).

    neat freaks, know-it-alls, psychos.

      THEN there's the security-engineering (fire/safty/ops) crossover.

    yah. entertainment, net and work stations, right? we are now looking for the magic hook, the killer app that MS CAN'T steal. (hard effort there. i think they're paying out 4 billion a year for stolen ideas (lawsuits) now.
    and it's a 'two steps forward and one back' (ala the current crop of intel.prop decesions) process.
    corperate formula would be along the lines of..
    (rant mode on)
    necessary, easy, fun.
    simple, conveient, reliable.
    friendly, smart and intelligent.

    ya don't need to know the process of generating that nifty up there. another pragmatic analyis of an existencial situation... (with the dimensional count being outta wack with current nuke-physics. tough beans, eh? I have issues with them over that.) seriously.
    outlawinbg MS is prop'ly a faster way.

    potter, as far as i know, is a captain berk and the nar-shlip enterrise type of original. i did trip over a new pratchette (disk-world novel) on the little people, one of a triology I'd never heard of, and one not listed in the issues (back page, list of titles) recently. slipping preview. Not alpha or beta version, hopefully.

Ya skipped out on a few of the basics, like civil/crim burdens of proof ( and taking a few wild swipes at legal person(age) corperations et al... the meta data and obsolence was a cute touch. discovery phase hereabouts (ott.ont.can) is used to AVOID trails... trials, sorry. intenial pun. back into proof again. just a sec... and like digital photots, the stuff is easy to frabricate. packrat

OK. good. north. yes. yes the fed gov't here is an MS colony. yes, the silly service ( especially in CS) is a patronage game. yes, it has a horrible, multi-billion dollar history of never producing anything that gets implimented. Or even working. yes, i still know programmers in income tax, HRDC, and other places. others?
