Well, I did RTFA, I don't see any mention of an EU store opening anytime, neither in the fall nor in the autumn;-)
But I guess you're right, even though we just voted for the European Union, each country has its own laws. That's probably a good reason...
Are there any portable Ogg players that support Macs?
Well, there is the Rio Karma, of course. I haven't had any problems with mine (knock on wood). The fact that you can just plug it into your ethernet network really makes up for the looks compared to the iPod.
But, to keep it slightly on-topic, there's no Linux for Karma (yet).
I always thought that "1 Megapixel" is just "one very big pixel". My camera has three very big pixels (well, 3.3 in fact.). I hope that's one for each primary colour...;-) 1 Megapixel cannot convey colour information, not for each primary colour anyway.
Let's be fair. I don't know that Blaster caused the blackout. The report doesn't say that Blaster caused the blackout. Conventional wisdom is that Blaster did not cause the blackout. But it seems more and more likely that Blaster was one of the many causes of the blackout.
Regardless of the answer, there's a very important moral here. As networked computers infiltrate more and more of our critical infrastructure, that infrastructure is vulnerable not only to attacks but also to sloppy software and sloppy operations. And these vulnerabilities are invariably not the obvious ones. The computers that directly control the power grid are well-protected. It's the peripheral systems that are less protected and more likely to be vulnerable. And a direct attack is unlikely to cause our infrastructure to fail, because the connections are too complex and too obscure. It's only by accident--Blaster affecting systems at just the wrong time, allowing a minor failure to become a major one--that these massive failures occur.
Yet mine keeps working like a champ and I use it a lot
Same here, until recently, I wasn't even *aware* of possible failure.
I'll just make sure that I read and post all messages related to iBook failures on any machine but my iBook. Just to prevent my iBook from finding out about this. It would surely fail once it found out about this...;-)
From the "What's not here" list of OSs he didn't install/run: SCO
SCO seems to be everybody's favorite company these days.
He's kidding, right? SCO might be the dream company that every lawyer would want to work for or against, but other than that... Booh!
"With the exception of Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, all systems listed are x86 based"
Well, sorry..., but at least Linux and the various BSDs also exist for ppc architecture. And probably even more OSs. I would have liked to see those installed natively.
But then again...
Everything else can be retrofitted
to IPv4.
Well, yes, that's exactly the problem with IPv4. All the good stuff has been glued on later. With IPv6, all these things like security, automatic configuration and lots more have been part of the design from the start.

What? Only UK, France and Germany?
Why not the whole of Europe? Did Apple also excluded one or more of the States of America?
Grmbl...
*Woohoo*

From their FAQ:
:)
3. How old do I have to be to use Audio Lunchbox?
13 years old.
Well, I guess I'm too old then (31 != 13).
On the bright side:
4. Can my cousin in Italy buy songs from you?
Yes. Anyone in the world can download tracks from us.
They sure beat Apple here: available worldwide!
