Epson does the same thing with their ink catridges. This didn't stop the refillers from designing a chip resetter, and it didn't stop 3rd party cartridge manufacturers from reverse engineering the chip so they could still make new cartridges.
Heck, I even saw one guy who made a CIS system bypass the chip by building in an circuit board to the head unit that fooled the printer into thinking it still had ink!
Mind you, 3rd party inks have been known to stuff up printers, you can get worse quality prints, not to mention sometimes their more expensive than the originals...
Interesting concept, but knowing Apple as I know them they'd probably have some bugs in it. Something like a malformed ping would make the device flush it's buffers. Not pretty!
But as I've always known that Apple makes crap software, this would merely confirm it.
Without business the IT industry would be nothing. Businesses keep nerds in a job so you should be grateful that this site is reporting on news that "matters" to us most of all.
To put it simply: geeks and nerds are soon to be marginalised in the tech industry. In their place will be MBAs and accountants who will be fully trained in technology. Technology, after all, is not that hard to learn - any businessman with a bit of nous can handle what techies do every day.
So we must continue with these type of stories to satisfy the new slashdot target market of business technologists. Nerds are on their way out.

Sir,
I appreciate the time you took to write this article and I wish to address some of your concerns:
Pearl is programming language that has many advantages over PHP. Even it's own supporters think that it looks like a cross between line noise and comic book character swearing! This will clearly keep those elite hackers in a job. PHP is not able to compete with this. Without these hackers, organisations will quickly fall into a mire of badly programmed, poorly implemented projects.
PHP, which stands for Personal Hackers Programming-language is part of the global conspiracy of open-source zealots. It's an insidious attempt to crack in to major security systems and this will be exposed in the long-run.
Try to bear in mind that PHP, which in essense is just a cut down clone of Microsoft's ASP, Just Doesn't Scale. I have no figures at hand to back this up, and this is in fact based on the way my colleague farted the other day, but I'm sure that no-one will disagree with me on this fact. The evidence is indisputable!
There are many, many other points that I could take up, but as I am very busy working with Lunix I'm not able to comment further on this subject.
Ah. Don't you just love content?

Never mind, he more than made up for it with a spelling mistake in the first word.

I've seen your nickname too! And man, you post so much crap to slashdot - and you do it 24x7. You must live, eat and breath slashdot.

Excellent to see that slashdoters are still wasting as much time as ever! I haven't been here in a while.
