I agree with him that poorly phrased net neutrality laws prevent competition. Competition is what will truly keep the internet open and free. Look at T-Mobile and Sprint in the cell phone market. The government motives change and swing, and many of up have no idea what they are. Business? I know what they want, my money. They will do what they need to to make sure they get it. Instead of fighting for net neutrality, we should be encouraging competition, co-ops, open pole access, etc. The cost to market but you can't tell me if it was easy, google and amazon wouldn't do it to protect themselves.
If amazon or google started having their profits threatened by this, they have the resources to change it, enter the market. But they face obstetricals every step of the way. Look at google fiber.
I would imagine you disagree with all libertarian, Reagan/Republican values? The socialist values you follow? The state should control everything, and determine who get what and at what cost? State run media? I would put my trust in a true capitalist system over a government system any day. Watch or read some information by Milton Friedman.
I also agree with the other guy, you are simply a tool.
Every time I hear people freaking out about this regulation, I want to slap them. They are worried about the wrong thing! Think of what T-Mobile and sprint do to the cell phone market. Two much smaller companies force Verizon and AT&T todo things they don't want to. This is capitalism.
The problem with the ISP isn't net neutrality, but to much government iteration. The government is/has picked winners and losers. City's close out competition, Limit access to polls making cost to market very high/impossible. A truly competitive market will fix itself, but they need competition. Deregulate, make it easier for companies to reach the end user, incentives co-ops. Driving competition is the only way to ensure a stable market. Regulations just limit those who can enter the market and keep power consolidated.
I giggle when I see posts list this as you see so many people who act like they give a damn use/sponsor IPhone or other apple products. knowing the conditions they are built in and the use of child labor....
I don't really care, just dont act holier than thou
This would be a brilliant business strategy! No ads, clean uninterrupted browsing, they just get some CPU cycles from you. Most people wouldn't even notice the difference or the cost. I would do it not to have to look at ads. This could destroy googles hold on ads and the new revenue stream for the internet. They should just let the user know whats going on and BAM!
I should have the right to sell an commodity I own. Digital or not. Any problem assosiated with that is the original manufacturers problem not mine! Look at DVD's or CD's. They are digital. I can sell a CD, but could have easily copied the songs. How is that any different?
The problem with different venders is they would have a different procedure to do different things. They want everyone to have the same one so they only have to explain it once. I agree with you that it does what it does and why and that the price is out of control. Not that they need something more. I still have my ti-82 on the shelf... hah
People have a choice. Different cooking fuels, different hearing sources, not using A/C, Driving a smaller car (electric cars are not very piratical for a lot of people). This just goes to show that most people who bitch and complain aren't willing to to do without. They want to force the change at the top. Power companies/society. This will not work. They don't see how closing US coal plant just moves it overseas, put our people out of work and more. If anything you want it in the us where it is more tightly regulated! I say give them what they want close all US coal/natural gall plants tomorrow. Coal 39%
Natural Gas 27%. With 66% less power, you won't be doing much of anything. and will shut the fuck up about climate change when you feel the real impact of it.
Do what is right, conserve where you can and let the industry evolve naturally.
This just isn't news to me. There is a large percentage of people that don't really need a PC todo what they do. play online, email, Social media, shop, pictuers, etc.... Until a few years ago the PC was the only way todo this so, they bought a PC. They bought an item that designed todo work and tweeked for home use, so it was overly complex for most. Along came the smart phone and tablet. Small, portable, works, it's SIMPLE and does everything they want/need it todo. Couple that with the slowing of PC speeds advances and new techknology, it is no wornder PC sales are down. They will continue to go down until they reach their new equilibrium.
I almost only read/. for its plethora of TSA stories and comments. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy i'm not the only one who gets love from the TSA. They love me so much that every time I fly, they give me a quick chop to the crotch and all I have to do is refuse the all seeing scanners.
Most people get cable TV from their internet provider (comcast, centrylink, FIOS, etc). If the the provider starts to loose money on the TV end they will just raise the price for internet.
Why would anyone buy this? Its a horrible product idea. Take a reliable device and fuck with it. All I want is to know that when I point and click it goes off. Not, my hand isn't held right, the battery is dead, i'm in a fight and its covered in mud, or its just dusty and it malfunctions. Or even worse and a delay, which could cause you to be off target or allow someone else to enter the sight picture. It is a self defeating idea. If you are worried about child protection, buy a safe, teach your kid gun safety. Carry it with you. I could go on for ever.
I think getting everyone a personal Chauffeur is the answer. Fixes the unemployment problem and the cell phone problem. Well other then the chauffeur texting but that's easily solved with electric shocks.
I'm sure this number is low compared to some places and higher then others. Everyone is talking about the Chinese, they do just as much crazy and weird stuff, there society justifies....
Governments want information. On its own people, on others. Information from places like this is often free and requires no formal request to use or get. Which makes it a win win. This type of thing is only going to get more prevalent. Soon, if not already, massive systems will filter all this data and track everyone, off nothing but open, public and free information. Add that to what they are able to obtain from private companies such as Facebook and twitter etc. It is scary how much governments, not even your own know or can know about you or a place.
If the wire fraud was such an outlandish charge with no cause, then it could have easily been dismissed, by the/a judge or appeal. This would have been done in a hearing long before a trial would have occurred. You say its unprofessional, others would say different. What I am saying is its all subjective.

The difference is I don't speak out against it on hand and buy an apple product with the other. I'm an asshole and don't care.

This is only news if you think the NSA still couldn't easily gain access....

Done.
Why would you not have critical system on a back-up power system? Generator? Something. It sounds like poor planning more then anything.
