    All the 'printfs' are a burden, so they probably put the stats in memory and do some other thing with it

    Any chance you had enabled MIT-SHM over your wan connection, or any one of the other X extensions that were really intended to only be used when client and server were on the same PC?

    Probably... :) I don't remember looking into the issue too much... Probably ssh -X, then running the app...

    Still, considering what other people commented, I would still use VNC.

    (But 90% can be done over ssh, so...)

    I've never had performance issues running X11 over a LAN.

    VNC and RDP are useful hacks for systems that weren't designed for remote access, but they're no replacement for real network transparency.

    Try using X11 over something slightly slower as LAN. Just try it, over ADSL, whatever

    I tried. And X11 is totally and utterly USELESS. A well configured VNC (and you have to really play with the knobs) is usable. RDP is the best (of course, it wasn't developed by Microsoft...)

    No, the article is stating that the theories in question predicted much larger effects.

    The data that they got fell outside of the bounds that validate the theory so the theory is considered invalid.

    I'm really tired of "skeptics" that in reality don't want to see anything.

    A true skeptic would not suddenly ignore every other event where there has been a different in arrival times (similar to these), with some lame excuse. But that's exactly how TFA sounds.

    Well, you're absolutely right.

    Playing low-stakes games is fun at an affordable price. People are insane about placing 1000s on the table, but put $5 for a blackjack round seems ok.

    And the odds are slightly in favour of the casino. Meaning that "the money will last for a little bit"

    I once went into a casino, put $40 in a Blackjack table ($5), played basic strategy, left when I had $55

    Lots of adrenaline

    Also worth mentioning are the people that have more than 60k worth of stuff in their car (yo! dog I heard you like...), people who are in the lightweight aircraft hobby, etc, etc

    It's a lot of fun mostly because of its ease of use. I'm pretty sure a 7-year old would have no problems using it correctly after only an hour or two of training

    My 7-year-old self would've orgasmed if he knew what having an orgasm meant.

    Really, I'm thinking 60k is "payable" if you're really into the stuff.

    (Well, at least after the BMW is safely in the garage)

    ahh, so the policies implemented by the president i voted against are used as grounds to make my life hell when visiting your country? do you honestly believe that's fair.

    Of course it's not fair! Tough.

    As it's not fair for a Brazilian (or any citzen of a non visa-waiver country) to have to travel a long distance (in Brazil think 2h flight in some places) and pay lots of money (It's one thing for an american to pay $150, in Brazil think it feels like paying $400)

    For the Canadian visa I sent the paperwork to an agent in my city, waited 2 weeks and that's it.

    And still, even with the reciprocity, it's easier for an American to go to Brazil.

    For example, no need for a transit visa. No TSA (and I really, REALLY am glad for this)

    Of course, a foreign visitor to Brazil will probably be extorted by customs (not border control), robbed while leaving the airport or at least getting to pay twice or thrice the price of the cab so it kind of evens out in the end :(

    No, they just make you go through the exact same thing a Brazilian citizen goes while going to your contry.

    If you're from a Schengen country, come on in. If you're from the US, you need a visa, you need to have your fingerprints taken, etc, etc

    Reciprocity's a bitch, isn't it.

    Either theology is a subset of physics (the atheistic view) or physics is a subset of theology (the theistic view). If the latter, there comes a point where the two might be hard to distinguish.
