The hacker is going to get the user to run a program, but not a program that 0nw$ the system. Just the google desktop install. Then they will again trick the user somehow so they can see what other users on the same computer have in the cache?
Sounds a little convoluted...
Its not spyware, its not even a real google security issue. Its an issue with default file permissions which can be changed.
1) A price incentive over a CD. With CDs being 9.99 to 13.99 for most of the stuff I buy 9.99 for a DRM limited digital download doesn't seem like a deal. $5 for an album would get me buying more digitally.
2) MP3s. I know most music stores cant because the RIAA is scared but I need MP3s for my car mp3 player. I know you can convert or just burn CDs but having 10+ CDs worth of music on 1 disc and being able to skip through it easily is a big deal to me.
Emusic seems like a good deal to me, if they have anything worth listening too I'll probably be buying a lot.
Actually you have more threading than you might think, check task manager, OS X activity monitor, or ps and you will see a lot of threads for most processes.
They arent going to die. Some sell cellular service (verizon, cingular), others are trying to move into new markets. Qwest is selling calble over some form of DSL.
Dont forget how much value the lines have, they get local loop charges for almost every business that orders a frame relay or internet circuit.
I see this as them selling you your own server. The advantages are the server holds the applications, kind of like webmail. It also centralizes and tracks the documents and changes.
The advantage to MS is that you have to run these hefty servers and buy CALs from them. They are already trying to move that way with the sharepoint services.
I still think they will have a full featured version that is just like todays version of Office. I dont think they will be able to do everything via web browser and keep the performance reasonable.
The in house windows update server should be free. Microsoft doesnt charge for it, its not very resource intensive and works pretty well.
Disk Imaging is not just a Windows problem, regarless of OS I would want a standard image in any environment I worked in.
MS Office can easily be scripted to install off of a network share.
Printer drivers should be setup on the print server, then the client just selects the server and printer and they are set.
Windows has a lot of flaws but bashing it for this poor management on these simple problems is stupid. It would be like someone bashing linux because you couldnt script changes to multiple machines (duh, shell script).
Not all windows admins are cram school dummies, just like not all linux admins are leet hackers who know everything.
Currently they license based on physical cpus, not the logical number. They had to make some minor changes when Intel introduced hyperthreading.
My guess is initially it will count as 2 cpus and as it becomes more widespread they will revert to it being counted as 1. A true dual system (4 cores, 8 logical) would be counted as 2.
Of course in another few years they will be feeling more pressure from linux so they may change the licensing a lot.
Users are never going to understand computers well enough, just look at how many people cant set the clock on the VCR. You even have security consultants who know little about real security but instead just work as many buzzwords as they can into a sales pitch or security audit.
Microsoft should send out a patch that makes the default to check and apply updates everyday unless you turn it off. This way all the people that have no idea what windows update is or what security patches do will get patched.
That wont work. When a DOS (or whatever) spoofs an address they send to the destination with a forged source. When the destination replies to the forged source they dont get an answer, but they do waste bandwidth and computing time.
The blocking is based on actually sending emails through this server which will require a complete TCP handshake.
It seems unrealistic now because we dont completely understand aging. As scientists understand it more they will get more theories to fight it. Staying healthy is only one part of the problem. You can be healthy and 80 but you are still not going to be able to do the same things as a healthy 20 year old.
This is not a new goal, people have been searching for the "fountain of youth" for a long time. Ponce De Leon was born in Spain (around 1500?), so this is hardly just an American desire or a new desire.
Redhat ES vs AS server are based on CPU.
So let me see...

Personally I want 2 things.
1) A price incentive over a CD. With CDs being 9.99 to 13.99 for most of the stuff I buy 9.99 for a DRM limited digital download doesn't seem like a deal. $5 for an album would get me buying more digitally.

1) Geeks dont like to leave the house, except to visit frys or compusa.
2) Geeks prefer the complicated technical solution to the simple "old fashioned" solution.
3) Profit!!!

Corporations wont go for that.

ourTunes allows you to download the files to your local computer.
iTunes allows sharing no downloading.
You use ourTunes to connect to someones shared iTunes collection and copy the music you want to your local machine.
In windows and OS X you just click on the jar and it runs like it was an application, no command line needed.
.zip and unzip away.
As someone already said the command you want is:
"java -jar OT41.jar"
I have seen various settings for linux desktops to do the same thing.
The nice thing is this single 300k app works on any platform and has the full source inside of it. Rename the file to
Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer
It even has a command line testing tool.
Im already adding some of my "stuff" to your coffee. Thats why I come in early.
1) This is a 20 computer cluster. Each computer has 512 CPUs. Opterons currently support up to 8 per system.
2) Some tasks work better within a single system which is probably why they didnt go with dual or quad systems.
3) Itaniums can be very fast if the sofwtare is compiled for them.
4) Profit!!!
I just did this to see what it would show and google comes up 5th. Dogpile, AltaVista and Lycos beat it somehow.
Its funny because its true.
or they wouldnt deliver to me. They wouldnt deliver to me even if I offered to prepay with a credit card.
Other pizza places dont have a problem with placing an order through a cell phone.
Of course this ignorant policy cost them a customer.
I imagine a VOIP line would cause even more problems.
Im just glad I use AOL to get my interweb.
Anyone can manage a network poorly.

Moores law is doubling of transistors, not clock speed. This is an easy way to keep up, double the core, double the transistors.t m

The next question from you will be:
Dear slashdot, I got outsourced to India because I listened to the radio and didnt do any work. What should I do with all my free time?

They dont have the current 2.4 opterons, or the 2.5 G5 (of course they were just relased) but this should give an idea.
It also paints a different picture on the photoshop benchmarks. The opteron wins here and its a Mac oriented web site.
To the grandparent, considering it will be some time before the 2.5 ships, AMD might have the 2.6 out by then.

I prefer the sugar coated, deep fried, bacon wrapped cheese strips myself.
