  2. Jesus on Software V-Chip for PC Games? · · Score: 0

Don't they realize attempts like this will be futile, it won't be long for a hack to come out for this "V-CHIP" that allows the software to be disabled, I'm sure kid's nowadays are smart enough to go into google and type "WallFly hack" and find some sort of download to bypass this protection. The only protection if you wish to call it that is to: A - Not buy these kinds of games for your kids. B - If your kids get the game themselves, and you don't want them playing it, TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN.. Enforce the rules of the computer and place consequences for not following them. I'm 19 years old, and a while back I played these kinds of games, my parents were OK with it because they KNEW I knew what a computer game was and I KNEW it was JUST A GAME, some kids don't know this... obviously with that incident with that GTA3 game and those killings..

  5. Paypal is SICK on Paypal Deals Blow To Freenet · · Score: 1

They did this once to me as well when I lived in Canada, decided to put me through a "random audit" which they want to check accounts that have "suspecious" activity. They wanted me to fax in documents on their special fax letterhead, they wanted stuff such as credit card statements, utility bills, proof of who I was, and so on...

The only thing I could do with the account is still recieve money from people, I couldn't send it, I couldn't transfer it to my bank account.

I had around 50 dollars USD on my account... I was kind of mad and wanted my 50 back... Anyways I kind of let it go and about 6 months later they released the funds to my bank account.

I now have being moved to the Netherlands, have another Paypal account, and I do not leave large amounts of money on Paypal at any time, I usually transfer just enough to pay for something I want to get online and that's it.

    --

This story is an example of them discriminating against the people using their service, they gave a shit reason and decided to suspend their account, which was a donations account and not for profit.

So I guess porn kings can have bank accounts but people trying to start up a small thing online can't have an online account to accept donations.

    Discusting.

  6. GMail on Speculating About Gmail · · Score: 2, Interesting

Gmail is NOT April Fools it seems... Check out www.gmail.com I am assuming the e-mail addresses will be somebody@gmail.com, and NOT google.com as people have thought. I have already put my name in to be notified for any beta testing. You can do this at the GMail Site in the FAQ. What worries me is that if they're offering 1GB per account... If Gmail is going to turn into a huge warez/porn/etc dump.

  7. No way to prevent it... on Microsoft Preps 'Janus' Music Copy-Prevention Scheme · · Score: 1, Informative

It started with recording songs off the radio with a tapedeck...

Now all you need to do is just play the song and record the output of your sound card to a file using the "What U Hear" function of modern sound cards and re-encode that to a file and you got a non-copy protected file.

There's no way around copy protecting sound, it's like trying to copy-protect spoken word, you can't do it!

  8. 2.6 and Slackware 9.1 on Upgrading Your Current System To Kernel 2.6 · · Score: 1

Upgrading to 2.6 was a very easy process after I got rid of a few bugs that kept cropping up.. I am a die-hard Slackware fan and been using it ever since the first versions of Slackware came bundled in the paperback Linux books.. (Anyone remember Slackware 98??).. Slack 9.1 came 2.6 ready because it had all of the latest software versions to be used on a 2.6 kernel... It was easy as selecting which modules I required using menuconfig and building the kernel as usual... The only problems I had was with the first 2.6.0 release that came out and the framebuffer driver was messed up or something.. I would compile support in for it and it would boot and I would either get a fragmented bootlogo or I would get a black screen until X started... Until 2.6.2 came out this was a problem for me... Now it's all resolved it seems and I now have 2.6.3 running on both my Slackware 9.1 Laptop and Server... GO 2.6!

  9. Books and Anti-Shoplifting Devices on Wal*Mart continues push for RFID adoption · · Score: 2, Interesting

Correct me if I am wrong but when I buy a book at a book store they usually have a general RFID tag on them as an anti-shoplifting device... Just as stores like Wal-Mart and Zellers has cheaper anti-shoplifting devices such as those magnetic tags..

Wouldn't it be cheaper to lean away from the magnetic tags and have two purposes for RFID tags.. As a anti-shoplifting device and as well as a item identification media?

I mean yes its easy to find and rip off these tags off of books and items and still walk out but the "average joe" doesn't even know about them.

  12. Storage Options on How Do You Organize Your Gear? · · Score: 1

I actually just store all my items in my closet, in boxes... Usually if I purchase an item like a router I'd keep the little box that comes with it to stick things in like screws or cables.. HDD's fit nicely into those boxes, then I store those boxes in larger boxes. Those boxes are stored neatly in my closet kinda tilted off of the wall so I have easy access. Also the stuff that I don't frequently require access to is just stored in my attic.
