It would be fud if he somehow implied that it's a problem in OSX. He didn't. He, in fact, went so far as to specifically state that the issue is not with OS-X at all, but with the third-party driver for the WiFi card, and made sure it was known that this issue affects all OS'es with support for that card. The fact that he used a mac was to prove that, yes, even the most 'secure' of the OSes is still vulnerable, because IT'S NOT AN ISSUE WITH THE OS.

    Pay some fucking attention.

Actually, novel algorithms exist for both encoding and decoding. It's then believable that Sandisk built their MP3 players without any Frauenhoffer code.

This is more like the .GIF debacle - where a company claims responsibility for all code that creates or reads the format they designed. It's obviously bullshit, but apparently Frauenhoffer don't take US victories for free-and-open use as precedent.

I don't know about most of the CDRTools, but Linux 2.6 doesn't need cdrecord; you can just dd an ISO file to /dev/cd or /dev/dvd (they dropped the SCSI hack).

Meanwhile, I've been working on an ISO editing lib for the Slax team. The requirements for the project are that 1) it creates no temporary files, 2) it uses no hard drive space other than the destination file (and swap space if the OS deems it), 3) it can add, delete, extract and duplicate files from the VFS to/from the ISO, 4) It can do this directly to a CD-RW.

You're limited by the bandwidth your block can get between the home office and the wider internet, but they do have far more bandwidth to burn than the cable line to the home office does. Meanwhile, on cable you have this restriction too, in addition to the bandwidth sharing.

It strikes me as strange that they're fighting legislation that would prevent them from using prioritization, and are doing all kinds of bandwidth shaping, always complaining that current use exceeds their capacity.

My theory: They're trying to garner the public opinion that they're giving a really great deal on access, so when they DO light up the fibre, they can charge exorbantly for it.
