Most programming doesn't need a degree, and I find it weird that there are now more people in programming departments with degrees than there were 20 years ago, despite the fact that this is supposedly easier to do.

We can all pick out the Googles, Amazons and the Pixars, but the biggest problems in software development are in the scoping and analysis, now, not in the programming. Someone might say that method A performs string concatenation better than method B, but the chances are that you'll need to run a million cycles to even notice the performance difference.

    2. For apps which do something other than what they say they do, I like your idea better.

Either way, I think people should be notified of the app removal. But I can't get that worked up about it because I know that I can always get .apks anyway (I have an app that was removed from the store installed).

Some of the most successful big stores in the UK are those which have good service. M&S and John Lewis have both been around for 90 years. Both are shops that will say "have you tried (competitor)" if they don't have something in stock, or they don't have something you like.

I'm not saying there aren't people who ebook readers work for. A friend of mine is constantly travelling, so a Kindle saves her space on carrying books.

And the app goldrush is about over. It's been part useful, part fad. Someone coming up to you and showing you a new app is tedious now. And in 3 months, everyone will have seen an iPad.

When I read what people have to do to share files from PC to their iPad, it's just hideous. Upload to Dropbox, and download at the other end. I've got to wonder if these things are going to get abandoned soon (and the web stats are showing almost no increase in market share).

Apple might see these decisions as hitting Adobe or Google, but they're also pissing off a lot of developers. When those devs switch to Android, that harms Apple's store. It makes Android more enticing to customers. My theory is that jobs doesn't really get 3rd party developers. They've never exactly looked after them well on Macs.
