  1. Future Archeologist on Ham and Software - Communities of Creativity? · · Score: 1

Why is that whole article written in the past tense?

You know the story, Time travel to study the past, before the apocalypse. Trying to peice together a functioning human society. Someone in the past learns of this, and tries to change the future, hilarity or calamity ensues.

Maybe Seti@Home is about to find something very interesting, and they want to know what the radio/software world was like just before the singularity happened.

Um, no. Strapping a bomb to myself would be me doing the damage. The candidates are the ones throwing punches or pulling triggers, figuratively. I am merely refusing to play thier game.

  3. I Choose to be Shot on Would John Kerry Defang the DMCA? · · Score: 1

Given the choice on November 2nd between being punched, and being shot, I would choose to be shot, Because maybe then people will realize how screwed up the get punched vs. get shot political system is, and then my kids won't have to be punched or shot.
So, since I'm getting shot on principle I may as well vote for a third party and get shot anyway.

  4. Better than coke, with less talk! on Microsoft Creates Static With New Webcast Feature · · Score: 1

You may have seen the new Pepsi edge commercials where a coke fanatic falls in love with the new drink. There are vastly more Coke logo shots in that commercial than pepsi, yet it is clearly a Pepsi commercial. Likewise, it is legal for Microsoft to say their webcast is similar to but better than a specific other radio station. The only case would be if the website or ads looked confusing.

  5. Re:Two things on Government Asks Court to Keep ID Arguments Secret · · Score: 1

Two, I think they should let the airlines set policies for themselves. Consumers can pick the cheap airline that doesn't screen, or the more expensive one that does.

I think the pricing could go in the opposite direction, you pay for an expensive airline that gets you through security fast and easy, and pays for the insurance to cover that, or you wait two hours for the cheap flight.

Of course this depends partly on insurance rates vs. the cost of screening. But some people would definitely pay to get through fast, just like some would pay for a flight with extra security.

  6. How is that libelous? on The Saga of Katie.com · · Score: 1

If I falsely tell people you got mugged, are they going to hold it against you?

Should it be any different for sexual assault victims?

    Dont't be an ass.

  9. Re:ha ha! on Jail Time for Movie Swappers · · Score: 1

The fact that someone asks you to pay them for something doesn't mean they have a moral right to.

If I tell you a story, it is perfectly moral for you to retell it.

I'm not so sure it's moral to earn money without working by threatening other people with lawsuits or jailtime. Let me elaborate...
Making music is working; writing songs, singing songs, playing instruments; it's all very valueable work that should be rewarded. What is not moral is having someone else copy your song, and getting money for each copy solely because you have 'rights' to it. That is not working, that is not contributing anything to society.

If an artist wants to morally earn money, they should get paid for the work they do. Do concerts, use the street performer protocol, maybe get a sponsor, hell, sell overpriced official CD's on the knowledge that people will support what they enjoy.

Copyright is immoral, and does not encourage artists to create art.

If I tell you a story, it is moral for you to retell it. It is not moral for me to demand a fee to allow you to do so.

  10. Re:Sharing.... on House Bill to Make File-Sharing an Automatic Felony · · Score: 1

Information is like fire, you can let someone else light their fire from yours, and no one is poorer from the sharing.

If you start a fire, then give fire to another, you gain no rights to tell them how they may use it.
