I work for an ISP in Alaska and we have had DTV over phone for almost a year now. Only problem is you have to have VERY clean lines to get enough bandwidth for the stream. Maximum distance from our huts is about 11 kiloft for 2 TV setups.
One nice thing about it is that we have had to boost up our latency/bandwidth standards to keep this running strong. Tends to keep the ISP on its toes.

Now the question is if these disks are that dense how susceptible would they be to scratches/laser rot/dirt? It would suck to lose terabytes of data due to the near uncontrollable possibility of damage.
In other news the RIAA has sent a cease and desist letter to the Colossal Storage Corporation citing that the existence of such drive would incite a new era of piracy.
