Michael Meacher is not just a former MP, but a former member of Blair's cabinet.
Political career:
Under Secretary for Industry, 1974-75 Under Secretary for Health and Social Security, 1975-79 Candidate for Labour Party Deputy Leadership, 1983 Member of Labour Party National Executive Committee 1983-89 Member of Shadow Cabinet 1983-1997 Principal Opposition Front Bench Spokesman on: Health and Social Security 1983-87 Employment 1987-89 Social Security 1989-92 Overseas Development and Co-operation 1992-93 Citizen's Charter and Science 1993-94 Transport 1994-95 Employment 1995-96 Environmental Protection 1996-97 Minister of State for the Environment and Privy Counsellor May 1997 - June 2003
Or destabilizing the government in advance of a pro-western revolution/invasion.
It is clear that the US government cannot and will not tolerate 'freedom & democracy' in the Middle East. There is a conflict here between strategic geo-political interests and the stated intentions of the government. You may assume that the stated intentions are more credible, but you must also understand that many others will not.
"Iraq continually violated those resolutions and was as uncooperative with the inspectors as it felt it could get away with without provoking another war."
Here are a few sources that contradict that claim:
I'm afraid that it is clear in retrospect that there was nothing that Iraq could have done that would have prevented the US from invading. I hope that you will understand that this is not an anti-american statement, but merely an observation of fact.
"Has it ever occurred to people that while protesting can at times be used for the better, at times it can also can major negative impacts on the actual thing being protested."
Protesting is supposed to have "major negative impacts" on the "thing being protested", you eejit!
"Their true aim in life is to destroy the American way of life."
Like I said, straw men.
What cost is Mr DeLay prepared to pay?
Or is he of the belief that environmentalism is fine as long as it is cost-free?
What's always puzzled me is that western countries have targeted civilians in the past in order to avoid occupation. I'm thinking about Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, etc. In fact the number of innocent civilians killed by the Allies in these actions greatly outnmubers the civilians killed by Paestinians.
So the question is: Why do we ask of them what we would never ask of ourselves?
How can we ask Palestinians, in the face of occupation, to refrain from tactics which we ourselves have used many times in the past?
I assumed that you were not European because in your final paragraph you referred to Europeans a) in the third party ('they') b) in a derogatory fashion ('schmucks')
Also, this was in the context of an American message board, where anti-European comments are common-place. If you aren't American, then I apologise for assuming that you were.
Since we're on the topic, I think that you might also apologise to me for referring to my friends and family as 'schmucks'.
Restart the machine. Normally it takes a few minutes before svchost.exe crashes - the machine should be ok til this happens. Download and install patch from MS. Reboot again . System should be ok now.
Worked for me, anyway...
The quickest way to getting Linux working on your laptop is probably to download and install Mandrake. Their installer rocks! It had no problems at all with my cheapo brand-x notebook.
You were doing well up until the last paragraph. It should be painfully obvious that we 'euro schmucks' are suffering from the same problem that you 'yankee schmucks' are suffering from. Gratuitous insults are not helpful.
Note also that the reference to the Ottoman Empire is often used by those who wish to smear the EU as an 'islamist' entity.
Of course, I'm sure that was not your intention.

Which of those offences merits a custodial sentence, in your opinion?
Or do you think that people can either: a) have free speech b) protest peacefully
but if they choose to exercise both they should be arrested?
"How often have you heard of the UDA or IRA doing anything other than killing each other and members of UK Parliament or the royals?"
You don't know what you're talking about, pal.
Three corporate points of view, you mean.
Corporate interests define the shared agenda.

Personally, I think that the fact that the US invaded at a point when Iraq was being cooperative *is* relevant.
Particularly in a reply to someone who has raised the issue of non-cooperation.
Please don't take it personally.
"..so that nuclear power can continue to provide electricity without the production of greenhouse gases."
Awww...
It amuses me greatly the way the libertarians on Slashdot become eco-hippies when it comes to the 'evironment-friendly' nuclear industry.
The difference is that MS regularly claims to be an source of innovation (for PR and politcal purposes).
As far as I'm aware, open source advocates do not rely nearly so heavily on such tenuous statements.

That's pretty sickening, what you just said.
Gov - "We don't want to track everybody - just the people who can't otherwise be tracked."
People - "Ok, cool!"
You don't know how many homeless people there are, but you know that the numbers are inflated? That's pretty impressive, dude.
Agreed. 'Intellectual property' is just the new name for Caesar's Tax.

It has nothing to do with 9-11.
9-11 changed nothing.
If you like Cicero and Seneca, I recommend Epictetus.
He was considered to be among the finest of the Stoic philosophers.

OTOH Linux does run (at least partly) on karma.
