Maybe the people you live with are motvated by profits, but not where I come from. I'd rather live in a community where (gasp!!) poeple actually care about each other. Oh the horror!!
Religion or not, selfish attitudes like yours make the world a worse place.
Bullshit. If someone earns $1M a year and wants to pay $100 a gallon for gas for his sports car, is his need greater than the guy who earns $30k a year and wants to drive his family to work? The remaining goods go to those who can afford it, need has very little to do with it.
Of course prices are affected by supply in an emercency, the issue here is deliberate price hikes far beyond the increased supply cost, made specifically to profit from someone's hardship. It's immoral - in a fucked up capitalist kind of way - thought it may be a bit too "left" for many Americans to understand.
Not sure if you realise but the rest of the world is quite disgusted by the way America treats its less fortunate. Katrina was very telling, and there's aspects of this disaster that are similar.
No-one is arguing that goods are more difficult to come by in an emercency, and suppliers often have higher costs when source goods. It is normal and reasonable to then pass those costs on to the consumers.
The issue is when the price increase far outweighs the increased costs, and becomes "'unconscionably excessive". Given the emergency nature, this is hugely immoral.
A good example is first person shooter computer games.
No-one has trouble navigating or dodging obstacles (though maybe reflexes let them down) even though we are viewing a video with no stereo clues. Object size, motion parallax and perspective are enough.
I'm embarrased for you too. It's not that hard to get voting systems right and they scale with population perfectly fine - the fact that America can make a complete arse of it is a sign of how far you guys have fallen.
20 years ago - "leaders of the free world"; Today - broke, unemployed, corrupt, and cant even hold simple elections.
Unfortunately, it is completely against public corporation directives to play any game fairly. They are required (by law??) to act in the best interests of their shareholders, which means maximising profits.
I cant see an easy solution to this other than legistlating to close loopholes.
Pretty sure most of the power used is not in the radio - before "smartphones" we had phones with similar battery capacities achieving much longer standby times AND talktimes. Even if you turn off a smartphone's Mobile data and stick to Wifi (with only 30mW transmit required), battery life still isn't great.
I think it's got a lot lot more to do with: - Big, bright displays - Multicore, gigahertz CPU's regularly kept busy with background apps - Far more sensors embedded in the unit to power - GPS, accelerometers, etc.
I did an XP install last weekend, and it took three evenings to get it patched up. Ran for a while, notified of updates, installed, rebooted, ran for a while, notified of updates, installed, rebooted, rinse and repeat about 6 times.
A single service pack would have gotten me there in an hour.
Wow..... just wow. As an IT Manager you have failed to grasp the concept of this article, and that is a worry.
They are not talking about sysadmins writing production code - they are talking about using one of a variety of scripting languages to solve sysadmin problems - eg repetitive tasks like backups, deployment scripts etc, maybe even some html status monitoring screens or a cactus plugin.
The "A" part of "UAV" only work for about 30 seconds when you take your hands of the sticks. Shortly afterwards, it will be "re-kitted" as it ploughs into a tree at 45mph.
"All the experts and people that knew what they were doing could already buy all the electronics they wanted and put it together, the Arduino filled no gap for them"
I dunno. I *could* have built a board from sratch, but it's just not worth my time. When people are making arduino compatible clones and LCD breakouts for $15 each it's a no brainer, grab their board and concentrate on the rest of the interfacing circuitry.
Yeah, but there's a difference between short range wireless (several cm) and long range (10's of metres) that makes a huge difference to the possible attach vectors.
When people say that a new power station will power xxxx many houses, they are usually going on the rate of 1kW per house - for a total of 24kWh per day. That's per household, not per person. No-where near 2kW.
Now, not sure sure how we account for daytime commercial / work usage, maybe that's enough to bump it up a fair bit.
Then give people a script for sugar pills with a funky medical-sounding fake name in a regular pill bottle. And when people cotton on to it change the name to something else.
It's far cheaper and more ethical than propping up an industry that relies on bogus science and fleeces sick people without providing a cure.
Some great single player games use novel play mechanisms that could not be implemented in multiplayer mode - think games like Fallout3 with VATS.
So, if you are only going to sign off on multiplayer games that means: 1) Either some single player games wont get made, or 2) The multiplayer mode wont represent the single player experience at all and will essentially be two games in one box, at twice the development effort and twice the cost.
Seems like a pretty shitty choice for the business and consumers.

True, but lots of cars these day have distance to empty on their trip computer, so it's becoming irrelevant.
I find km/L an easier number in my head, but still agree that L/100km is a better domain to work in.

Yeah, I dont believe them either.
Pick any two....
I lolled :)
Fark....the Wally//118 is 12 kinds of awesome!!
Would have suited apple's style much better than the hideous monstrosity they have now.
No big deal, just get them conformally coated.

Hmm, sorry, I was convinced that the A stood for "autonomous", in order to differntiate themselves from RC aircraft.
Apparantly I was wrong and some sales jerk/researcher just wanted to make fancy new acronym without adding any value.

Since when has free speech got anything to do with public officials telling lies?
Bad troll is bad.
This is why we're not allowed to have nice things :(
Nuclear power could be awesome, but human beings struggle to maintain the level of focus required to keep it safe.

The sooner homeopathy is terminated the better.

Have they found the gene that makes them batshit crazy?
