I get the impression is that the cameras have built in GPS so that they can be more easily deployed. Rather than have to manually clculate the distance bertween cameras, the system can do it automatically. Maybe some of the systems are mobile or temporary.

It's a fair stretch from "using satellites" though.

This is why "software engineering" fails to be taken seriously. How in this day and age an OS can be released without simple checks and balances like input validation is beyond me. The only excuse is "the developer couldnt be bothered, and no-one checked up on him".

Most programmers these days are the equivalent or tradespeople and artisans - sure many of them are very talented, but as a group still lack the formal QA and inherent attention to risk management that any real engineering should have.

That's the same argument as "every school shooter played violent video games". I'm pretty sure kids were being abused and people went on shooting rampages long before child porn or video games existed.

There are just some sick fucks in our society that will have a problem with or without support from fictional media. Censoring material that causes no harm is just wasted effort and makes a false sense of security. More money on treatment and support would help more.

There's no way the electricity company is doing this solely for backup power.

A far greater motivation would be that whilst the transmission line is working, they can use it as a battery for their own surplus/deficits and to stabilise the local grid. Stick hundreds of these around and it really paves the way for other non base load generation.
