Really? What about the rest of the world and China? Just because they have a beef with the US (who doesn't?) Doesn't mean we, or the corporations of America, do.
The issue with KDE is the Qt license. It's pure GPL. That means you can't write a Qt-based application without your entire application having to be under GPL.
The Opera web browser is entirely closed source, and uses QT for the interface. How do you explain that?
Well let us see, the PS2 has the highest number of titles (not even including the PSX ones) out of any other consoles, so all the games in the world: check.
We're releasing soon! Well they've hardly shifted the launch date, and I'd say one season is pretty soon relatively. check.
Quantum supercomputers? Well not quite quantum, but clusters of PS2s have been used for supercomputing. check.
I do hope history repeats itself, if they make good on the promises this time, like they did last, we're all in for a real treat.
The ones that fail seem simply par for the course when producing things like this, there is always an expected and acceptable amount of rejects in any mass volume production environment.
This failure rate does not indicate, in any way, the life expectancy of the ones that pass and are shipped out for consumption though.
Just like the superior Beta Max rendered the VHS irrelevant... oh wait, bad example. Try how the superior Minidisk rendered the CD irrelevant... oh, that's another one.
Prevalence and superiority are not intrinsically linked you know. The first widespread large-storage High Def thingy will be Blu-Ray because it's in the PS3.
The same happened with DVD, doesn't matter which is better, the one that invades the homes first and fastest will be the new standard for some time.
I agree on principle that American, and western generally, culture needs to learn to exercise responsibility. However no parent has the time or resources to personally test every aspect of a product before giving it to a child.
Would you personally smother your face with every product, or lick it, or swallow it, or stand on it, just to see if it's suitable or safe for your kids? Doesn't the label saying "not safe for 0-3 year olds" help just that little bit? The ratings system is perfectly fine as an advisory to parents, as it gives a general overview of what the content is. However the parents are also free to check it out for themselves.
There was a time when people could tell the difference between racism and nationalism too. No one is saying anything about the race which primarily inhabits India, but they are showing a general disdain more for foreigners in general. Which is perfectly natural, who doesn't want to be proud of where they came from?
As for anyone taking the piss in about accents and whatnot, rest assured that those in the East make just as much a joke about western mannerisms etc.
Stop being so politically correct and recognise a little pride or humour when you see it. (the best jokes are always at the expense of someone else)
This is supposed to be a new artform. Play some Katamari, people!
You do realise that being rolled over by a giant ball and propelled into the sky only to be ignited with the heat of the sun will probably kill most people?;)
but my pile of strategy titles would argue with that initial claim.
And isn't the goal of most strategy games not to kill a few people, but thousands upon thousands of them in some kind of army setting? Not just destroying a few lives but entire civilisations and cultures. FPSes may be homicide, but Strategy games are genocide!
Disclaimer: I hate the FPS genre as much as the next educated person, just thought these things bore mentioning.

Or the whitehouse...

Try XFCE, it's a great middle ground, simple interface, but not too lean (like *boxes are), but not too fat (like gnome) or too much (like KDE).
The fact that a sub-$500 player will be available long before any other next generation format, in the form of the PS3?
It's odd, but I'm starting to see a lot of UMD movies in stores like GAME, or even Morrisons (a supermarket chain in the UK)...
I seriously did not see this one coming, most companies would have buried the project and let it rot for all time. Think bnetd!
Kudos to Vivendi, thanks to them and the people working on these games.
The poster is more than likely (like myself) someone who applied for the beta and passed, thus being notified by email.
But I thought games were supposed to help us escape reality!

Podjacking added to the US English Dictionary!
Bringing you tomorrows news--today!

You'll find out in three days when your cease-and-desist arrives! ;)
You think Best Buy employees have n times $400 USD to spend on consoles every week?
Why are they working at Best Buy if this is the case?
The concept of web apps seems inherently flawed to me anyway...
I bet he's smart enough to know what a god damned paragraph is though...
Lotus is the only one to give me night mares. Terrible Night Mares.
;)
I'd use Lotus if it gave me nocturnal horses, they'd fetch a pretty penny
And you will reply: "posting futuristic anecdotes on slashdot my dear"
No it hasn't, all you'd need to do is check the list to see that.

Interestingly, patched machines are not vulnerable to the exploits used by this worm.
What's interesting about that? Isn't that the entire point of being patched? To not be exploited...
isn't it?!
The big question now is, will EURid's systems be able to handle the load?
;)
Truly this slashdotting will be a good test of that!
