  1. Make sure to defrost the beans before grinding on What is Your Favorite Way to Make Coffee? · · Score: 1

I store my whole beans in the freezer, and I find that it's important to defrost the beans before I ground them. For some reason beans at room temperature grounded taste better than freezer-temp beans. I'll leave it to the bio-chemists to explain why, but it definitely makes a difference.

You know, after four consecutive Republican governors common misperceptions tend to change. In fact, just because a state generates a lot of tax revenue doesn't mean it has high taxes - after all, Massachusetts is a federal tax exporter (it's federal tax revenue ends up subsidizing other (red) states, yes, even after the Big Dig!). So-called "Taxachusetts" is right in the middle of state income taxes in the country - 5% - the smaller states tend to have much higher income taxes. Kentucky has 6% on everything above $8k, Idaho has 7% above $7K, even a "big" state like Georgia has a 7% rate - they can't generate as much revenue, because median incomes aren't nearly as high.

To be honest, I just think they've figured out the user interface. Email threads are "conversations" -I don't have 20 messages from my college buddy quoting me simpsons' lines, they're all under one thread (like a newsgroup!). It makes your inbox so much easier to manage. They also do some neat tricks with javascript and server side pushing (I haven't really looked under the hood, I know I should) to make it not seem like web mail - you get mail without having to request it (although you have to keep the browser open). And the whole concept of searching, not sorting, through my email is great. I still have my yahoo address, but I'm seriously considering switching. If this is what we get in beta, imagine what it will be like in 2 years. Then again, it's just email. Still, kudos to the google folks for putting a new spin on an old trick.

What is the definition of a "the typical Internet user?" Seems like if they define it as people who have regular access to the 'net, then they're talking about people working in offices rather than, say, at McDonald's...

Oh yeah. That interstate highway system was a huge waste of money. As was... um... the Internet. And why don't we scrap the space program while we're at it.
