I think you missed the point of every progressive out there. First, corporate personhood has nothing to do with the ability to sue a corporation. A corporation is formed to shield the people IN a corporation from liability. You sueing a corporation is the exact POINT. You don't sue the employee, you sue the corp as a fictional legal entity.

I looked up Jeffersonian vs. Hamiltonian ideals, and ok, it seems Jefferson wanted more agrarian roots for the country and Hamilton wanted more manufacturing for the country. Jefferson wanted strong foreign policy but hands off domestic policy. Hamilton wanted a more English system, a stronger domestic government.
Can you really pull these attitudes into today's conservative/liberal divides? The main question seems to be one of "do we want a strong central government?"

Ok, I'm stereotyping a bit, but my points are: 1) Both conservatives and liberals in this country hate big government. 2)Liberals just hate it for real reasons and know that it's essential to keep companies from poisoning us. 3) Cramming today's liberals and conservatives into straight Jeffersonian or Hamiltonian ideals doesn't work, and seems like just another labeling of Liberals as lovers of big government. Clearly, they are not.... Fuck Obama for the weak willed deal making empty promiser that he is. I'm pissed that my country is engaged in crony capitalism of the highest order. I want this shit reigned in. I'm pissed about the erosion of our civil rights by the TLAs (And I seem more pissed about it than my conservative friends). Etc etc etc..... All that being said, we NEED the EPA, OSHA, the FDA, etc. This doesn't make me a lover of big government. It makes me a realist on the underlying motivation of large corporations and the power needed to reign them in.

I don't think you can actually say that every democracy collapses due to loose fiscal policy, followed by dictatorship. I'd like some examples. Democracy is relatively new. Empire isn't, but democracy is. Where are all these failed democracies that are now dictatorships? I can name many dictatorships in the world. None of them started as democracies. North Korea? Syria?

From what I've read about Common Core, it's an attempt to teach actual understanding in math and reading instead of rote memorization for test taking.

Go spend a few hundred bucks and see a therapist, just in case. If the concept of therapy bugs you, call it professional outside perspective. Oh yeah, and as for your "transparent motive" of Big Labor? Unions DO have a transparent motive. It's right there for all to see and they exist for a very good reason. There was a time in this country (and in many others) where OSHA didn't exist, the weekend didn't exist, the 8 hour workday didn't exist.... When corporations have all the power, they set the rules... and strangely enough they use those rules to push down wages and cut expensive safety measures. People were quite literally dying. People were working HARD for pay that was below the debt they were accruing from the company store.
Anyone who says those days are over isn't paying attention to the world.
I know unions have a bad rep for corruption. To my mind, any large organization does. That doesn't negate the good that they do. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. It's a complicated issue. Also, we KNOW large organizations used and still use tactics to destroy reputations. It was a favorite tactic back in the day, and it's still quite popular now. Funny how well bashing on Unions serves the interest of a few and yet so many people do it because "everyone knows" unions are Evil....
I worked a union job once. grunt labor. I never met my union rep and at the time it seemed like they were stealing from me for nothing. Now I work at a large corporation and we've seen record profits for the last several years but they can't seem to hand out raises, because Economy. I'd have NEVER heard the U word in the cubes a decade ago. I hear it all the time now. They do serve a purpose.
Yeah yeah, Unions Evil! Oh, and we're all paying taxes at gunpoint!
.....Or maybe companies keep whining about how they need a better trained labor pool, so they should help pay for it. Maybe that's how our civilization works. Maybe we all pay our taxes so our country can afford the basic infrastructure that allows basic business functions to work at all. Maybe that's part of the social contract needed to live here at all.
Maybe Unions are for more nuanced than you're making them out to be, and maybe you're short changing yourself by leaping to conclusions. This isn't a clear cut case, and all the people on here immediately leaping to how evil Unions are need to step back and look at the larger picture.
So, yes, why should google pay taxes to the district so they can buy microsoft? Let us count the reasons..... There are many.
