Chuck Norris, Lee Marwin, and the rest of Delta Force are launched in an ICBM, and then do a HALO parachute jump from it, fire explosive charges at the windows while still airborne, then land by crashing through the blown windows on motocross bikes, use martial arts to force the people the President wants to talk to to pick up their phone and answer it, and then finally relax with a couple of cold Budweisers after another mission well done. The software in this world would work a lot better if people prayed more to the Lord for their software to work well, instead of wasting their time, and endangering their souls, by performing pagan/satanic rituals such as "validating input". In addition, the Good Book tells us that the best and easiest way to get high quality software is to instill a strong healthy fear of God in all software developers, but good old fashioned common sense methods like that are unfortunately taboo in this politically correct secular world.

These things did, and still do, make a difference from a military point of view, and military purposes was why the original structure was built in the first place.

If I'm not mistaken, there are several underground military structures in Sweden broadly on the Stockholm - Oslo axis that should be highly suitable for datacenter use, but I'm not sure if they have all been decommissioned yet. This includes what is believed to be the main national military/civil wartime command center ("Riksbunkern"). Swedish speaking people who are interested in these thing should try to search on "Redovisningsavdelning Bergslagen", which was, and still is as far as I know, the rather non-descript designation used by the unit/organization responsible for the highest level of military C3 in Sweden.

  21. Some background info on New Datacenter In Underground Lair · · Score: 3, Interesting

The datacenter is built in what was called Pionen; one of several now defunct wartime civil defense headquarters located underground in the Stockholm area. It was built in 1943, and modernized in the mid-1970s. It was meant to be a forward command post, built large enough to contain several rescue vehicles (fire trucks) in addition to the command and control functions, and despite the rumors, it's not capable of withstanding a direct hit from a non-tactical nuclear weapon.

What would be really interesting is if someone bought the Muskö underground naval base and converted it into a datacenter, since that's a SIGNIFICANTLY larger underground structure (its underground area is approximately the same size as the whole of Gamla Stan in Stockholm).

To be fair, Rutger Hauer doesn't need to destroy the movies he's in; they're already rubbish (Bladerunner and Hitcher being about the only exceptions). I agree, but then, one could argue about how much it's his fault that he mostly seems to get roles in crappy movies. I suspect that it, to a large part, boils down to him just having had bad luck compared to some of the A-list actors.

....they need: 1) A good actor as they had in Rutger Hauer. Fixed that for you. Hauer completely blows away Ford in that movie. IMHO, Ford has about the same (stone face) acting ability as Steven Seagal, and it sucks that he became such an A-list actor, and thereby (literally) managed to play his part in destroying the movies he's in.
