And you can do ALL of those things on FAR LESS than minimum wage.
It may require that you give up some of the more pleasant parts of living the good life, but all of them are possible.
The irony in your ignorance is that you probably use services from people who make less than minimum wage and are happy to send more than half of their paychecks back to their families to support them.
You are spoiled and think 'making a living' is something its not.
There is no excuse for any American to go without the things you mention. NONE. There are reasons Americans don't have those thing, it usually revolves around being lazy or refusing to work a job that is 'beneath them'.
I, less than 5 years ago, held a shitty fast food job, had my own apartment, my own car, my own cloths, and paid my bills. I was living in a 1 bedroom apartment with a 5 year old car and my cloths weren't made of silk, but I most certainly made a living and supported myself.
You are a lazy spoiled brat who seems to fail completely how raising minimum wage only effectively lowers the value of those people making more than minimum wage.
I have done both, and have no problem leaving my desk and being a cook again. I'm not that good at it, I'm far better at programming (not that I'm good, you just REALLY don't want to eat my cooking!) so I try to stay in development.
I will, however, gladly 'degrade' myself to working in the back of a McDonalds if it means having a job rather than not having a job. Most people will do the same the instant they aren't being supported by someone else and your food supply becomes directly related to your work output.
You are applying your culture to a country and people thousands of miles away from you that subscribe to a completely different culture.
The only reason you know about it is because some posted pictures of the event and someone else said 'OMG BOOBIES OMG OMG OMG OMG'.
They did it last year as well, no pictures, no story. This is completely socially accepted in Taiwan's culture. Stop projecting yours on to it. $10 says it didn't make the news in the city it happened in, probably not even the country it happened in. No one there CARES.
Yes. I know plenty of women who go to strip clubs with their male friends.
ESPECIALLY in someplace like Taiwan where this is entirely socially acceptable behavior.
Knowing the culture of the area you live in helps before you start talking about how people there should feel, especially if you're going to project your own culture onto them.
And they still have hormones and like nudity, perhaps not nude women, but nudity all the same.
Men loyal to their girlfriends and wives are men.
And they still have hormones and like nudity, you aren't fucking the strippers, they didn't get blowjobs, this is little different than watching BayWatch.
Men who don't take strange women's clothes off are men.
No, they aren't. Thats where I draw the line. Hormones and hundreds of thousands of years of evolution put you squarely in the wrong category on this one.
Well, okay, a gay man might not want to take a womans cloths off, but thats a technicality, they'd be happy doing the same to a sexy man.
I've been put in this situation before and there was nothing I could do except play the game and shove money down her pants. The stripper knows it and she exploits it. Next time I encounter an event like that, I'm telling my coworkers to have fun, I'll walk straight out and tell the organizer to fuck off.
Awe, did you get a hard-on or something and get embarrassed? You could have left the first time, you didn't, you are playing a victim. Good luck finding anyone who cares. You weren't raped, you could have left, instead you pretend you wanted too, but couldn't. Your wife may believe that shit, no one else does. Sorry if you were among the small group of people who didn't enjoy it, the world, thank god, does not revolve around you. Everyone can't be pleased all the time, nor are you for some reason entitled too. You should have got someone to take pictures of the chains holding you down and the people forcing you to put money in her nickers, then I might believe your bullshit, probably not, but its a possibility.
Stop with the high and mighty bullshit, you aren't, and everyone can see through it. I guess you totally understand the culture in the country where this occurred? And you know for a fact that it is just like the culture in what ever prudish, sexually repressed area you live in?
Its disrespectful to men
Oh go fuck yourself, I'm so sick of people playing that card.
Disrespectful WHY? I don't like pizza, is going to PizzaHut for lunch disrespectful to men as well? Get the hell over yourself, the world doesn't revolve around you or your pansy ass. Perhaps if you grew some balls and started acting like a man rather than whining about a situation that really wasn't that bad then people would treat you like a man, otherwise you'll continued to be treated like a pussy by your coworkers.
You command respect. You are not entitled to it.
You wouldn't be in Yahoo!'s management, clearly, and judging by your reaction to this, I doubt you'd make it as a manager over any large group of people. When something like this makes you cry you just won't cut it. A man would have said 'No' if he didn't want to stuff money down the strippers pants, he wouldn't do it then whine about it later.
Real men speak via their actions, not their words. Of course, real women do too, but thats not the point since you wanted to clearly focus this on how you, as a man, were hurt.
And this post reenforces my previous one. You are stuck in a box that was the situation when you were 'taught' to program. You are not a programmer, you are a regurgitator, I'm sorry.
And did MS write the driver, or the mobo manufacture?
What the parent was saying is that Apple writes the drivers regardless, or works VERY CLOSELY with them to produce the drivers, because they control ALL the hardware that goes into a Mac.
MS does not control all the hardware, they can not ensure that the driver the mobo manufacture provides actually does what its supposed to do or even follows the MS guidelines for drivers.
It doesn't matter if he built his machine and knows which mobo it is, that doesn't make the mobo drivers any more reliable. Apples' tight integration and knowledge of the hardware give them an advantage that MS doesn't have and can't have do to the fact that anyone can and does make hardware and drivers for Windows.
--You should have trolled the registry and the lack of a competent equivalent to package managers.
Right, because the registry is vastly different than/etc, and Windows hasn't had a package manager for the last 13 years...
The registry provides a consistent API that every app can work with for storing configuration information. Apps aren't required to use it. Proper apps can work with and without touching it. Your complaint here is one of bad developers writing apps that use the registry, not the registry itself. Attacking the registry itself is about the same as attacking libxml because people use it to write out config files.
The windows package manage does not included a 'get from the internet' button, but if they did, it would just turn into another rally cry for people screaming monopoly and other such retarded things. It does however have no problem managing dependancies and updates. Of course, doing so requires that developers actually use the system properly, which no one does... except Microsoft, which is why they have a nice update system which other OSes have more or less copied.
Bitch about windows all you want, but if your points revolve around the registry and package manager, just go home, you don't know what you're talking about.
Linux was created, not invented, because Linus was stuck inside during the freezing winters in Finland, single, and bored off his ass. The rest of the stories are just that, to make it sound better.
Hat to burst your bubble, but Linux ISN'T UNIX. Don't act like its the mostest baddassest OS on the planet, its SMP performance is better now, but it hasn't always been as good as it is now. Its not IRIX or Solaris, or HP-UX or AIX... you know, the ones MADE to run on SMP systems.
When is it that Linux fanboys are going to get over themselves and stop making it an 'Us against Microsoft' thing? How about you make it a 'How do we mark our OS more useful' thing and stop playing follow the leader.
I like the fuel economy of Deisel fuel, but my car requires gasoline!!! I'm tired of those restrictive car manufactures telling me what my engine must use and how I can and can't use my own products!
Yes, you do sound as retarded as that statement.
You are using an OS that doesn't show up on the radar as more than a large duck, sorry if they don't support it, you knew they didn't when you bought the thing.
I'm so super pissed that iTunes doesn't run on the OS I wrote, those bastards are restricting my ability to use my devices and using their monopoly in the music player market to crush BitStreamOS!@$!@$ I know its not technically a monopoly or any whever even near it, but I'm going to talk out my ass anyway!@$
Do you realize how retarded these statements sound to anyone outside of your head?
Android will replace the iPhone I'm sure... just like the Pre or the Storm or whatever the 'iPhone killer' was last week. You just don't get it. Apple does, hence why they own the music player market.

We've got spotify on this side of the pond too Sven. Its just not really that impressive.
Spotify is kind of like buying a house versus renting.
Yes, you can rent, have to do less work and throw your money away supporting someone else. Its the socialist in you that likes it.
We prefer to own, have control over, and be able to know our monthly payments are not just going away and buying us nothing more.
We also don't all live in 3 cities that have great cell coverage, which people never seem to be able to grasp. We can't use Spotify in a LARGE portion of our country where people live. We can however, listen to our iPods with music on them all day long, and we continue to listen to them regardless of what Spotify feels like doing.
Oh, you mean do it without the fee... You should be a little clearer. You imply something that is flat out false. Anyone can compile apps for the iPhone with a little effort.
Plays4Sure was at least the 3rd DRM scheme Microsoft came up with, not the first. Plays4Sure was what MS claimed was going to be the consistent way to DRM, unifying the different ways they had done it in the past so everyone would play nicely together for DRM'd WMAs from then on...
Of course that ended when the Zune came out and MS didn't even bother to use Plays4Sure for themselves.
I was just sitting here, bored, opened a browser to take a look at slashdot to see if anything interesting had popped up since I last checked 10 minutes ago, and I see this story with only a few comments and figure, 7? Theres got to be something funny in there by now.
And here it is. Priceless, just freaking priceless.
I am not fond of it and I don't like it, but every now and then a message along the lines of "don't fuck with us" needs to be delivered. This seems perfectly acceptable when corporations take minors to court over copyright. I see no reason why the citizens should hold back and refuse to take every lawful action available to them to keep the corporations in check.
(although, there will be some distortion for transmitting a signal over a distance shorter than the wavelength)

This is only true if the receiving antenna is basically wrapped around the transmitting antenna. From a practical perspective it doesn't happen, you'd just connect the wires directly and avoid the time domain issues you are referring to.
They can, if they don't want the benefits associated with being a carrier, and they'll have to make it clear they aren't an 'ISP' or something like that so people are not confused by it.
You mean the tiny wrapper app that wraps around the library? If they didn't you'd be bitching that they should have thrown in a little test app so you could see if its your system, quicktime, or the 3rd party app thats broken.
You're running windows and you're worried about the tiny little of disk space used by the quicktime player?
First off, there's no legitimate reason iTunes has to use QuickTime for MP3/AAC decoding. There are plenty of other options.
Really? Name one that doesn't suck ass? Name one option that works reliably and Apple can ensure it gets bug fixed on time.
Installing iTunes doesn't mean I want their stupid, crippled movie player or plugins.
... then why are you installing an application that is a stupid crippled movie player and plugins? If you don't want it, don't install it. If you install it, don't tell people you don't want it.
Genius and audio level auto-leveling, and scanning for updated album art are the things that popped into my mind instantly as to why its consuming resources that you don't expect.
iTunes use quicktime codecs for handling AAC and H264 from ITMS, without quicktime iTunes simply wouldn't work any more than WMP would work without the Windows Media SDK or whatever its called this week. This is no different than GIMP needing GTK installed, its what happens when you use shared libraries in your app, you have to install the dependancies as well to use them.
I agree that it has some performance issues, but they all have easy to recognize causes, they should still be fixed but they aren't exactly surprising.

This doesn't seem to preclude having a different law requiring it to be fair. This is just to make sure it is disclosed to you.
In Windows, drivers are also considered services, they just happen to run in kernel space rather than user space.
You can 'start' and 'stop' some drivers using the net start/stop command, just like you do with services.
iPhones do not use the mass storage driver, custom protocol.
