    I suppose a lot of people are too young to remember this, but when I was a kid I remember having a 5 digit number.

    This the same thing really. They'll eventually just tack on the area code to be a permanent part of the number.

    Actually, I would love for someone to point out where it says it's illegal to replay an over-the-air broadcast show. This is no different than recording the show and watching it later.

    Movies or shows that are on premium channels, I agree - it's not legal, but over-the-air shows...

    You do know that over-the-air means public airwaves, right? That is exactly how the FCC defines over-the-air: public airwaves.

    I live in the US and use Torrents to get my TV shows all the time. Here's why: ABC has the annoying habit of starting a show 1 or two minutes early and ending up to 4 minutes late. They're not consistent with their times and the guides don't reflect them. It's very annoying to record a show and miss the episode's cliffhanger. Or miss the beginning.

    Until ABC et al change this policy of trying to force people to stay on their channels for ratings sake - all the while not informing the guides of the proper start/stop times, and prevent me from getting a full episode, this is what I have to do to watch a full episode.

    You know, I do the same thing, but with a twist:

    I take those stickies and later enter everything I've written down into my Zaurus. I use my Zaurus as a data storage tool, so to speak. That includes pdfs, word docs, xls, whatever I might need to refer back to often. I have all the apps on the Zaurus I need to read or write these formats, so that's not a problem.

    It's a lot easier having all your data in a single place (which you can back up, I might add), and not have to spend the time firing up a laptop. PDAs are instant-on devices.

    I dunno... They DO have links everywhere to download their software, but the word "Azureus" doesn't appear once on their startpage. Not once. The only reference to Azureus is in the title "Azureus.org". Plenty of references to Mp3s and downloadw, though.

    And billing complaints aside (there are many, unfortunately), Skypeout works beautifully. I can make clear calls from the US to any landline Europe, no problem. At around 2 cents a minute. Calls to European mobiles aren't all that cheap though.

    Unless you're and ISP or in the import/export business, this is probably not an issue. Most corporations these days have employee usage statements that prohibit company email for personal use. That would be all that is needed to block huge portions of the internet.

    Are all/most surveyed students born and brought up in America?

    That was my first thought when I read the summary too, particularly after having lived in another country for a few years. A lot of things we take for granted are quite illegal in other countries (Latin America was where I lived).

    I also agree with you on the PATRIOT ACT.

    Actually, Skype is about as good as it gets for Skype-to-international landline calls, price-wise.

    What Skype REALLY needs to do is improve their billing systems for SkypeOut calls. If you spend any time on their forums, time and time again you'll see complaints ov credit cards not being accepted, cancelled, etc - even after initially working. Personally, I've not nad any problem using my Visa with them, but pushing people to Moneybookers isn't any way to garner customer trust.

    While I agree wholeheartedly with this, I have my doubts as to whether or not this will actually happen.

    As far as I know, in all human recorded history, someone has been at war with someone else on this planet. We've never seen true peace.

    Unfortunately, I think the only thing that will bring peace is the edge of extinction.

    I use it for rm content from time to time. Works well too.

    Back when they actually had it available for Solaris, I tried to use it... horribly broken. Fonts wouldn't render correctly, and when you finally got them to render, it would take forever to read them "from cache".

    I may not have directly said it in my post, but I'll make it clear: Just because one chooses components over all-in-one units does not make it inferior - particularly when research is done prior to purchase.

    Sorry, that's just WAY too pricy in my book, and believe me, I drop a good deal of change on my project studio, albeit most of it software based.

    Seriously, the hardware looks nice and all, but you could piece together a comparable system with components for half the cost.

    I have came close to snapping up an amd64 e-machines a few times though.

    I still use my 5310 (not 64bit) every day as my main machine. I've run SUSE on it since 9.0 with no problems. Best impulse buy I eve made.

    Are there similar problems with oracle or other "top of the line" database systems?

    If you spend any amount of time at MetaLink, you'll see that Oracle has just as many gotchas as any other DB.

    I'm not familiar with your app, but the reason I've been using Picasa (previous and current versions) is because it neatly catalogs all my pictures with minimal input from me.

    I didn't see that on your list of features.

    Well, look at it this way: iPhoto doesn't run on a PC either. So you end up with two different apps for two different platforms. If we had an equivalent app for Linux then we'd have all bases covered. We don't yet (that I'm aware of, although there are a couple that are trying).

    It's never an all or nothing thing. Quit makeing it out to be the end of the world because the app isn't supported on your platform. Obviously you have a solution in iPhoto.
