Just wait until broadcasters join the chorus of RIAA whiners...
I'm betting that's already starting. I get a lot of my TV shows off from bit-torrent, and lately there's been all sorts of problems with sites like tvtorrents.tv (was net), tonight there's a problem with btefnet. Luckily someone is staying ahead of whatever is causing the problems, but it's getting kind of silly having to log into irc to find out what site you need to go to each night for a torrent.
I care about style and design as well as function, which is why I didn't even have to think twice about buying an iPod.
I'm guessing that if you were really honest with yourself, the real reason you didn't think twice about buying an iPod was because it was from Apple, not so much because you care about style.
Anyone who thinks the MP3 player market is remotely like the computer market, just because a couple of the companies involved are the same is making a huge mistake.
Now replace "MP3 player" with "PC/Intel/AMD chip market" and "computer market" with "mainframe market".
True enough, but it's still a valid point: If you're striving to create the best desktop, you need to find a way to include stuff that's found on every other desktop.
I will agree that my methods are not rewardable but they got the job done.
No you "didn't get the job done". All you did was satisfy your own sanctimonious self by locking them out. As you say earlier, they most likely went back to exactly the same way they were operating before.
For local service, yes, I see your point. But the days of paying 7 cents a minute for long distance are history for many, many people already. They've either discovered PC/SIP gateways that charge 2-4 cents a minute or they use up their cell phone minutes (another subject altogether).
Well, I really do think he's got the VoIP stuff right. I'm now seeing commercials for PC software (glophone) to do pc-to-pc and SIP. Never would have happened before this year.
I myself just decided to really give Skype a second look - and things are really looking up as far as PC/real phone combos go.
My (better, IMO) solution was to buy a couple of squeezeboxes from slimdevices.com and put the server app on a Linux machine, although it's just perl, so you could put it anywhere, I suppose.
Not the cheapest solution, but it was quite easy to set up, and it can be extended with plugins. There's a decent sized developer community doing plugins for pretty much anything you'd want.
I haven't had cable for quite a while, but I do subscribe to Dish network. The main selling point for me was not your regular programming, but the a la carte international programming I could order. I get a French and and Italian channel for an extra $12 a month, which is worth it to me. They didn't start out with decent program guides for the international channels, but lately they've been synced up nicely, which does allow me to record with predictable results.
For me, it doesn't really have much to do with addiction - rather, what other countries are reporting as news. It differs quite a bit from the standard Fox/CNN/MSNBC stuff we get here.
Not to mention the history and culture shows that I would never in a million years be exposed to her e in the US.
I have the 480 model, and it's great in the hotel room. I can plug it into the TV and watch my movies and shows at full frame rate. I record all my shows at 640x480 - Plenty of resolution for a TV set.
I have the 80 gig model, so I can cram a lot of video onto it.
Strangely enough their customer service hasn't gotten any better...
Their DSL customer service downright stinks... I've had to deal with them twice last month for things they didn't have the slightest idea. And I believe their call center has gone to the other side of the globe.
I quickly discovered the best way to deal with DSL support is their private forum postings on dslreports.com.
Actually, there already is a Zaurus model with Wifi builtin (6000). The thumb keyboard's not bad, but their clamshell models have better keyboards. Too bad the new 3000 doesn't have builtin wireless, but that was a deliberate design decision on their part. GPS works fine on the Zaurus too, albeit with a CF card.
But the other AC reply to you is right... you'll get sticker shock.
There were a couple - predating TechTV - CNet and ZDNet(TV). They both had good and bad things about them, but both went away (or turned into TechTV). That should tell you that there still isn't enough of an audience.
Maybe at some point in the future there will be a need for a 24 hour Tech channel, but in the US, at least, there is just not enough demand for one. And demand is what TV is all about.
Leo was excellent in what he did. Actually, Pat wasn't half bad either.
I hate what the've done to TSS recently. The guy they added to replace Pat just after the LA move - Alex - actually worked pretty well with Kevin Rose, once you got used to his style, I guess, but they got rid of him too. What's the story on that, BTW? It was very sudden. And now Kevin Rose has taken a back seat.
In any case, I absolutely HATE The other Kevin and Chi-Lan. They're horrible at what they've been tasked to do.
then why is it no serious unix hacker considers any of those distros worthy?
A "serious unix hacker" (what IS that anyway?) might not, but I can tell you that an admin that has to admin several Linux boxes DOES consider any of those distros worthy.
Seriously though, Christopher Judge has been doing this since the beginning. He's character is kind of getting boring. Claudia as the alien that is part of SG1 would be awesome.
They've humanized Chrstopher Judge's character a lot over the years. It's the nature of the beast, I would say. It happened in the original Star Trek with Spock, Data in TNG, 7 of Nine in Voyager, etc. And I think the same thing would happen to any alien character Claudia would play.
Depends how much SCO is willing to offer. Certainly, IBM isn't going to
*give* SCO anything in a settlement, if that's what you mean, but they might
be persuaded to call off their lawyers and forget the whole thing ever
happened if SCO offers them enough.
Why on earth would the initiating party offer any "settlement"? That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. We all know SCO's not the brightest bunch, but that would be downright stupid of them to even try something like that.

See, things DO change.
Stargate SG-1's and Atlantis' new episodes are being shown first in GB. At least those are the only ones I can find on bittorrent.
True enough, but it's still a valid point: If you're striving to create the best desktop, you need to find a way to include stuff that's found on every other desktop.
They've gotten ridiculous.
No you "didn't get the job done". All you did was satisfy your own sanctimonious self by locking them out. As you say earlier, they most likely went back to exactly the same way they were operating before.
Nice job.
Do you have many friends? Dates?

The only 64bit laptops I've ever seen were AMDs.

It will. There will be a Qtopia SDK and surely it won't be long before OGG is playable.

They did something like that with Atlantis. He didn't last long and was killed off.
SG-1 may have fizzled, but its offshoot Atlantis is turning out to be a pretty good show. Decent cast too.
I though PDAs were dead in the US :-)
Refresh my memory again... was it a database administration problem, or a programming problem?
