Why would I want to carry around 'three days worth' of CDs?
I go home more often than that. In fact, I have more than 3 days worth of CDs, and it's better just to carry the ones I want to listen to, than to carry around some limited arbitrary 3 days worth.
I tried viewing this page with old Netscape (4.79) on my Macintosh (it's an old Macintosh). I normally read Slashdot in 'light' mode.
For some reason, loading up the article/comments page 'broke' and shifted to not-logged-in and turned into a glacial undertaking. All those banner ads and the mess that I seldom see emerged.
As I sit, waiting for it to load and noticing the flashing bitmaps and mess, a banner ad for the Creative Nomad appears....
Hell, anybody who's been around awhile knows that the penguin mascot was mostly chosen because Linus was bitten by a penguin at some LUG event in a city he was visiting.
The Platypus logo was more fitting, and a cooler, more appropiate 'mascot' for Linux anyway.
Obviously, nothing at all. None of his material support of Terrorists in general has any connection. Terrorist acts appear from no-where and there's no greater anti-West context in which they should be framed.
I don't think that the future of music lies in its media format. Those days are gone.
Sure it does! Even if it's just a dongle of some sort, and the content itself resides somewhere else, that's the way things will continue.
I grow tired of the people who feel that music is becoming some sort of wispy 'ethereal' thing with no physical manifestation. Be that way if you like. You're writing (or, actually, you're letting it evaporate into nothing) your history.
I have 78's from the 1910s that I can enjoy, LP's from the 50's and 60's that I can enjoy. Good luck twenty years from now with your 'online' music. Or are you implying there's nothing there you'll care to listen to in a decade?
Ummm, people send in the camera with a return address so that they can get the pictures back. What about this process isn't as 'identifiable' as it would be if there was a unique key in each camera.
'Angry Giant' and 'shrewd' just don't fit together very well. I'm sorry, but IBM is not a comic book character. That's how it sometimes starts to seem with some of the carrying on here.
I used to have a pile of mercury cells. The biggest size mercury batteries ever made. They were the 'reference' batteries from an old Fluke Thermal Transfer Standard (ultra high-end calibration equipment.)
They were each about the size of two 'C' cells.
They were probably the most toxic batteries ever made.
So, you're telling me that if I ever encounter a little pile of plutonium dust on a tabletop somewhere, I should quick, hold my breath, and swallow it??
Is www.forbes.com permeated with broker kiddies who rant and rave about their pet software project? Who runs the moderation system? Do First Posts and grits posts fill their comments section? Do they have a comments section for the guys in the peanut gallery??
He didn't necessarily mean water, or any conductive liquid.
He might have meant jet fuel, or Methel Ethyl Keytone or any other number of things far worse than water. Since you're being paranoid and all, maybe even something radioactive.
From this, it's a simple matter for Apple to void the warranty if you run an OS other than MacOS on the machine. That is, if you meddle around and try to take control of the cooling system and make it less like an Athlon jet-engine sounding box. Clearly it's designed so you either put up with the noise or 'put the hardware at risk' and void the warranty.
Why couldn't they have made the fans and cooling system a seperate function independent of the Operating System. It could be driven by independent controllers, even with 'hooks' so that MacOS can take over for special functionality.
True, but you're speaking to a crowd of swivel-chair bound nerds. Go out and buy a piece of plastic with a high quality recording on it? When we can stream a degraded copy over a wire for free instead??

Hmmm....
I've read almost all the 'Buck Rodgers in the 25th Century' comix. I did it when I was a kid, so I don't have to pretend I'll live it out some day.
Enjoy your segway, space cadet.

Since when has Microsoft 'feared' Linux?
"First they ignore you, then you pretend they're laughing at you, then you pretend they're fighting you, then you're a loser."
Penguins waddle rather hopelessly when on land, however. They can only 'charge' under water.
It's not that ironic that Linux chose as a mascot a bird that's forgotten how to fly.
Also, then, Quicktime and (especially) Real Player should be forced to play 'standard' formats.
whoops. Real makes their money at the 'server' end. I guess they're outta business now....
Let me get this straight:
It's The Conservatives' fault that you decided to jump on the bandwagon and get a Computer Science degree?
Maybe you should have made better choices. Nobody is guaranteed a job based on the training they elect to engage in.
Obviously, nothing at all. None of his material support of Terrorists in general has any connection. Terrorist acts appear from no-where and there's no greater anti-West context in which they should be framed.
Shouldn't you be out chanting somewhere?

It's 3-D, maaaan.
WTF is a 'ramscoop'??
Are you kids fooling around with your paint program again when you should be doing your math homework???

For it to be 'common knowledge' and not just a 'common rumor' you'd have to have some cites and/or evidence to provide.
Do you? Many of us wouldn't mind at all for it to be the case, but let's not make bold claims without anything to back them up.

It's already coded.
.Xsession and .xinitrc file to call twm.
Ditch KDE or GNOME.
Dig out the old O'Reilly X manuals (vol. 3 and 8, specifically). Edit your
It's not that bad, really.

Yeah.
An ordinary alkaline 'D' cell can put out the amount of peak current that you're fretting about.

IBM can be a very angry giant once awakened.
Ummm, do you have a cite, or examples, for that assertion? Or did it just feel good to type it?
(note- I am an 'IBM brat'- son of a retired 27 year IBM veteran and grew up around 'Big Blue' culture)

My point is, Joe Six-Pack doesn't even know walmart.com exists.
And machines with Linux preinstalled aren't sold in the WalMart retail stores.
