You're right that England isn't covered by American laws. Why should it be? It seems you're yet another typical American who's never been anywhere and 100% believes the propaganda your schools and TV brainwashes you with that US == the world.

I've lived in both countries and you really think people are 'freer' to speak their minds in the US than the UK? Thats laughable.

You need to check your facts too:
Free speech has long been recognised as a common law right in Britain, it also has a statutory basis in Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights which has been incorporated into UK law by the Human Rights Act.

You're assuming all corporate IT has public customers which is not the usual case. Most corporate IT depts are in companies that just have to manage the laptops/desktops of their employees.

    >> Lastly, corporate IT does not actually run the business and make the business decisions.

Not true at all. In the common scenario, Corporate IT completely dictates exactly what the corporate IT policy is. The usual scenario is that the head of the IT dept. is a mini Hitler who is absolutely committed to drinking the Microsoft kool-aid.
He alone gets to determine what OS employees can have installed (usually Windows only), whether they really need internet access, and what apps they can have installed, which is down to his personal belief rather than anything based on need or what works best for the productivity of the company.

He sees his job as a gatekeeper who's duty is to continually lock-down and prevent users doing bad things, rather than an enabler or service provider to users who need the right tools to do the real company business.

    Seem familiar?

The normal defence for companies being sued for patent infringement is to find a breach of their own patent portfolio by the suer's products, then settle out of court.

It kindof assumes that the entity bringing the case makes commercial products themselves. Entities that don't are basically untouchable, which is why patent trolls avoid selling actual products.

Its going to be very hard for apple to find a quid-pro-quo breach by a university.

I see this as a great thing because games is pretty much the last reason I have for a dual boot system. Anything serious I do under Linux as its a far better tool, but some of my favorite games are windows-only so I still need a windows partition around. Assuming they start to port most windows games to Linux too, I can finally dump my windows partition.

I know gaming won't change any minds in corporate IT depts, but at least it may encourage non-technical users to try Linux at home. It seems that a large reason corporates have for justifying continuing to force their employees onto Windows is that "everyone is more familiar with Windows than Linux". Lets hope steam on Linux can help to change that too.

Anyway IMHO console games are generations behind graphically and usually way more dumbed-down game play-wise compared to many PC games. There really arent many if any good strategy games on PS3 for example. I also much prefer a mouse and kbd to a console controller.

    >> Just don't be surprised when the banks run dry because people on Linux don't actually like to PAY for anything.

Bullcrap. I'm a dedicated Linux user and a hardcore gamer. The only use I have for Windows is as a games playing platform, because developers dont make Linux versions of premium games. For everything else I use Linux as its way more of a professional and productive tool than Windows ever will be.

I'd much rather not have a dual boot box at all. I welcome the day I will be able to get rid of the bug-ridden, unfriendly, overpriced, locked-down security-hole and virus magnet that is Windows from my PC forever.

To do that all I'd need is for my favorite premium games that I ALREADY DO PAY FOR could run under Linux.

Yes I already know Linux has many free games available, but even the hardest core Linux zealots will have to admit there's none that are even close to the quality of, say, Skyrim.
