Self-driving tech is still at a point where cars are having accidents (some even fatal) , and requires car drivers to be in the driving seat and have their hands on the wheel. For them to have a fully loaded semi on the freeway and the driver to get in the back seat was blatantly irresponsible. This experiment should never even have been legal.
PS: My statement about inline assembly not being necessary presumes you have a bootloader that intiailizes hardware, sets up stuff like ISRs and bootstraps the kernel. I'll never say anythings impossible but that would be a real challenge therefore stupid to choose to write in a high level language.
Basically efficiency/performance and controllability of timing. Despite that many people would argue Java is as fast as C, it really isn't, so a kernel written in Java or any other high level language would be relatively slow and bloated (i.e. a memory hog).
Functionally, I dont see that inline assembly is an absolute necessity, but accessing memory mapped hardware and stuff like DMA registers would be, so you at least need pointers and to be able to dereference them.
>> The problem with male teachers is that they're automatically viewed as sexual predators.
Not just teachers, but all males. This is the REAL problem (just one of the many that PeeCeeism caused), that we need to fix in society, not some stupid "equal numbers only in male dominated fields" agenda. Have you noticed how these same SJWs are not even slightly vociferous about the fact that nursing has only 4% of males, and in Pre-K/Kindergarten teachers, only 2.4 % male?
I'm thinking AI is yet another step closer to where computers are doing all our thinking for us, and we're just sheep-like drooling idiots a la Idiocracy.
I'm glad he made a point of saying Windows PCs rather than just PCs, as the world in general tends to do. I've always hated Windows and found it far more awkward, unfriendly and non-intuitive to use than literally any other OS I've ever tried (which after 35 years of software development is a LOT). Windows started out as a messy compromise (anyone else remember yield()? )and has only gotten worse over time. It truly boggles my mind how most corporates and their IT departments still continue to push its use over other OS's.
> It's so absurd that anything sexual is considered "harmful" somehow.... yet here we are, still overreacting about such things.
Yep moving to the US from Europe, I couldn't believe how puritanical and apparently stuck in the 1800's the US really is when it comes to sex (which is after all a natural thing), but completely fine with sensationalizing graphic hardcore gun violence (which isn't).
In the US, blowing someones guts out all over the camera is fine, but you better not inadvertently show their nipple at the same time.
The next stage will be to commercialize it by putting it on TV as a sort of sports/gameshow where guests compete at killing "terrorists" by remotely controlling the robots in the warzone.
Nope thats not unique to Florida. Its here in AZ too. Part of my commute home from work involves a 20 minute stretch of freeway, and Its gotten so bad that its unusual not to pass at least one accident where some moron has rear-ended someone.
A few days ago I saw some dumb bitch in a Lexus (illegally) driving alone in the HOV lane during rush hour at maybe 75-80 mph past traffic doing 40 or so, texting with both thumbs (so both her hands off the wheel), not even hardly glancing up from her phone.
I'd be fucking pissed and demanding a refund if I'd just bought any car (let alone one for like $120k) then the manufacturer started trying to tell me who/where/what I can and can't carry/go/do with it.
>> "It's great to be able to tell your device, 'I wanna watch the Duke basketball game, I don't care what channel it's on.'...which is exactly what I've already been doing for years (and for $0.00 give or take a few watts) with my Linux-based media PC that is running MythTV and plugged into an OTA antenna.

Dude of course not, but it doesn't matter, that's common-or-garden technical expertise that he could and should hire, rather than learn himself. Its not like Trump is ever going to be wasting time configuring/administering his own server, just like he's not going to be repairing his own cars.
Whatever incompetent muppet is being paid to set up/run that shit for him should be pretty fucking embarrassed though. If I was Trump I'd have already fired their asses for this.
If you're enough of a gamer to want to use an nVidia or AMD video card, then just buying any Apple product seems like a particularly bad move in the first place.
I don't hate Hillary. I hate corruption. I think anybody that chooses to be corrupt, habitually uses backstabbing and coverup techniques and puts their own enrichment first before doing "the right thing", is clearly not ever going to be good for the country, so is therefore fundamentally unsuitable to be a President. Trump may be a fool but there's no real evidence to suggest that he won't put America first, as he claims he would (usually loudly). There's also no evidence that he has committed any kind of corruption on the scale that Hillary has, or that he bucks the whole system, such as obviously having backroom deals with the FBI and Attorney General, and repeatedly getting caught out lying to congress as Hillary does so often it appears she lies automatically, and doesn;t even know how to tell the truth.

Totally agreed but it doesn;t make it right, does it?

So NOT true. Just look at the way that many women, the feminist movement especially, and the media talks about men in general.

VM? garbage collector? no pointers? I'm not seeing anyone writing OS's, device drivers or any other low-level stuff in this anytime soon.

How do you know? he might have machine gun jubblies :-)
>> Well, "PC" does by default imply Windows, or at least a Microsoft operating system running on x86 hardware
No it really doesn't. You and others thinking that is simply the result of decades of Microsoft FUD and advertising.

nVidia supporting it and Apple supporting it are 2 very different things.

Are they dubbed into English or do they have subtitles? :-)
Please remind me....

Well Duh.
You can bet Musk isn't going to take any responsibility for non-Tesla car accidents too.

If one failed in such a way that its design caused deaths yes they absolutely would.
