I can see where this is going. You might hate terrorism and be looking at isis.com or whataver for legitmate academinc or other reasons, yet the FBI will now just put you on the no fly list anyway.
This is starting to get pretty close to those people that claim they can totally hear the difference when playing MP3s over those $20k ethernet cables.
Chances are it will already have windows on it. Ubuntu installation is so simple its crazy, yet actual facts won't stop a bunch of windows fanbois trying to tell you otherwise Just ignore them and try it for yourself.
I guess the question is waht matter to you most? The 15 minutes of mild inconvenience it takes to install Linux, or the years of almost constant aggravation you will get from keeping windows?
Apparently its something to do with some new mystical form of quantum entanglement where the coffee molecules are actually still black until you look at them. The EU are spending $100bn on building a new kind of detector under Swtzerland to answer this very question.
You can't actually. You can just buy people who will tell you to your face that you have 1 and 2 (and whatever else you want them to say), regardless of what they actually think.
It seems clear that you are yet another victim of the brainwashing that modern society (especially in the US) does to boys and young men, so like most males, you automatically but incorrectly value yourself only by your ability to earn money/usefulness to employers (i.e. employable skills). You need to instead learn to see the intrinsic value that just your existence actually has. Trust me its very much there, you just need help and the strength of will to undo the years of destructive social programming that you have already undergone to see it for yourself. Once you do, your life will massively improve. I know this because I was like you once.
I'm not even sure I know what this mythical "Year of the Linux Desktop" is even meant to be so I'm probably not the best person to ask about it. I can only speak from my own actual experience that I've been using Linux as my desktop just fine for years now, and I have found I am far more productive with Linux as a desktop than Windows.YMMV I guess.
Sorry but I can't respond to the rest of your rant because its not clear to me what point you are even trying to make.
It boggles my mind how people rightly complain about this and all the other abuses by Microsoft, then go right out and buy another PC with Windows.Self-inflicted much?
I can't exactly explain why, but somehow it feels to me that we wouldn't have self-awareness if we were part of a simulation. Something to do with it not actually being us thinking, but some external entity. Cogito ergo sum.
>> One should assume energy use will scale with computing power
No one really shouldn't. You're presuming that in the next 10,000 years we won't develop any relatively revolutionary method of computing that is vastly more energy efficient, which seems a ridiculous assumption given that to achieve the computing power and storage just your smart phone has just 40 years ago would have taken a large warehouse full of computing equipment sucking down hundreds of kilowatts of electricity.

it's data-mining to promote win-win synergies and enabling ultra-collaborative cross-team visualizations for end-to-end global solutions in the cloud *cough*
Any British citizens that don't vote for Brexit with this sort of shit going on must be masochists.

>> Yes, actually you exclusive Windows users are a long way behind the times.
That isn't me, I have a Linux desktop and won't even let Windows on my PC.

You think forcing an upgrade on people is a minor annoyance? omg lol

Fuck the Internet, this guy needs to be sued for everything he owns. Lets see how what he has to say when his game is biting him in the ass.

I wish I had mod points. +1 from me anyway.

I guess it depends on what you're doing. I take a (big) hit in productivity working under Windows.
Nor do I. Windows 10 is much worse.
I've been doing just fine for years with Linux as my Desktop.

YOU wake up.
Windows costs money.
Linux is free.

Jeez people just vote with your wallet already.
How the hell do they isolate the key from all that is going on around it?
A bananinja?
There's no way I'm even getting in any self-driving car with Microsoft software in it. I certainly wouldn't ever buy one.

Pascal must run A LOT cooler/lower power than Maxwell to not need a special M variant, or they're underclocking it to hell.
Presuming its not you buying the MacBook otherwise you're going to have to explain the (very bad) logic of buying a MacBook for VR.
