Yeah, that's it, the innocent have nothing to fear, only the guilty have anything to hide. Right.

Maybe he comes from a mainframe background. When I started in 1983, some people still had source mods to IBM's MVS operating system, but they disappeared over the next few years as IBM closed the source and introduced a lot of documented APIs. One reason mainframes are so reliable is that you don't have Joe Sysprog mucking around in the code.

Well, they used to just torture them and chop their heads off instead of using lawyers, but otherwise it's pretty much the same.

No, it means the clothes themselves will yell at you, freeing up your wife/girlfriend/mother for more productive tasks.
  7. Re:SCO also filed their 10Q with the SEC yesterday on SCO Volleys to Red Hat · · Score: 5, Interesting
The actual 10Q is here, and this is the really interesting thing in it:
During the three months ended July 31, 2003, Microsoft Corporation ("Microsoft") accounted for approximately 25 percent of total revenue and Sun Microsystems, Inc. ('Sun") accounted for approximately 12 percent of total revenue. During the nine months ended July 31, 2003, Microsoft accounted for approximately 16 percent of total revenue and Sun accounted for approximately 12 percent, of total revenue. There were no outstanding receivables from these two customers as of July 31, 2003. During the three and nine months ended July 31, 2002, the Company did not have any customers that accounted for more than 10 percent of total revenue.
So 37% of SCO's income came from Microsoft and Sun last quarter. I think we can all draw our own conclusions, formulate our own expressions of outrage, etc.

  9. Re:'Perfect Information' on Privacy Incursions to Support Price Discrimination · · Score: 2
This is a good point. I don't see the problem so much being the privacy invasion as the huge imbalance of information between seller and buyer. It is very easy for large companies to acquire and process the information to develop their pricing strategies, but very difficult for the individual consumer to get enough information to defend himself.

My wife already spends tens of hours planning a family trip to find the best possible airfare, hotel rates, etc. Buying a new car can take two or three weeks out of your life if you don't want to walk into a dealership with a big "I'm a sucker!" sign around your neck. As discriminatory pricing becomes more prevalent, we'll be left with the choice of either accepting the prices offered to us or spending half our lives figuring out how to get better deals.

You don't understand. All microbrews are derivative works of the Budweiser recipe base. If you drink craft beers you need to start sending money to Anheuser-Busch right away to avoid serious legal trouble.
