I think you underestimate the flexibility of the trade. People will get used to another desktop quite easily..

    The problem lies somewhere else.

Next he starts giving them away for free in the shop next to yours.
    What would you do ?

I dont look at my OS as a MMORPG ;) Firstly i'd like to keep other online people out of my OS and secondly i dont want to pay $129 each year just to keep my machine working. Yup, i know apple keeps updating old iterations of X, but releasing an OS every year is imho just a bit too much. So dont buy it you say. Well if it was only for the nifty stuff like fast user switching i wouldnt buy it, but they also put in major speed improvements, which cant be missed.. I would be happier with free speed improvements for the older X's and a new premium OS version every 1.5 year or so..

I dunno the exact method used.. but found this on my fav dutch hardware site : "The monitor contains two TFT panels separated by a parallax barrier, which directs pixel images to two separate regions so that each eye receives a slightly different image. In the end, the brain formulates the signals so that the image appears to be a three-dimensional object, Nakagawa said." So it seems that it is possible to project 2 slightly different images to both eyes without shutterglasses.
