Perhaps because it has been turned into a money making machine?
So? Nothing wrong with paying the rent and eating sometime this month by doing what you enjoy doing. And if people want to drown her in money, who am I to argue?
Many an afternoon he can be seen far across the dogyard tearing something into strips and eating it; one just avoids that part of the yard for awhile. Of course, he's a Britanny Spaniel, not a hound.
Wouldn't it be great of all the ARTISTS banded together to form their own group to develop, distribute and protect the music they create. Something which would cut all the middle men out of the loop permanently and directly benefit the ARTISTS. I'll bet most people would respect copyright law a little more. Only THEN would I consider paying a blanket tax on products (iPods, recording media etc) instead of putting up with DRM to support ARTISTS.
Not gonna happen. Ever see a 'recording contract'? The music that's created becomes the property of the record company. They're even trying to get contracts that flat out state that the recordings are a 'work for hire' so that they don't need to bother with 'science fiction accounting' in order to screw the talent. California keeps saying that those type of contracts are invalid.
So, even if a 'signed artist' would join a group to 'develop, distribute and protect' their music, they''d have to get out of their current contracts first. Not easy. Hell, if an industry A&R rep can do it, they'll get you to sign a letter of intent, which means if you get a record deal, it'll be with the A&R guy's label, and if you try to sign with someone else, it just ain't gonna happen because the other label will respect the letter of intent or else get sued. Letters of intent are nasty things.
No, IANAL, but I did put my time in the trenches in Cleveland's local rock scene back in the 80's. Lucky for me, I came away flat broke instead of bankrupt...
No doubt Ms. Santangelo's lawyer will be responding to the motion by pointing out to the judge that -- after over a year and a half of complex grueling litigation -- the dismissal should be "with prejudice", not "without prejudice". Assuming the judge agrees with Ms. Santangelo, which is highly likely, then Ms. Santangelo will be a "prevailing party" and eligible for an attorneys fees award. See Capitol v. Foster, July 13th Order and Decision.
Which is exactly why they want it dismissed without prejudice. Not only do they get to keep the money for Santangelo's legal defense, but they also have the option of hauling her ass thru the system one more time if they need Yet Another Example...
Will she get it dismissed with prejudice? Not likely...
I would describe NPR as being alternative media the same way that I would describe those "non-conformists" that dress and act exactly like all the other "non-conformists".
We just retired a server this morning that was running RH9. Never gave us a bit of problems til the hardware died. We pulled the backups we needed off the drive and installed a 'more modern' distro - Ubuntu Edgy. So far, so good.
I loved RH in the day, ran Fedora Core up til a couple weeks ago, when I switched to Edgy amd64. Some stuff is a bit different, but all in all, I still like it.
I'll always have a soft spot in my head for FC, though...
The idea that if the government releases the data, everyone will switch to the best provider is ridiculous. If everyone switches to the "best" provider, they'd become oversaturated, lots of service unavailable, and drop calls. They'd stop being the best. Then with the next report, everyone would switch to the new "best" provider. No, it doesn't work that way. Reporting will make all the companies more accountable and try harder to improve their service.
Actually, if 'everybody' switched, the cell company would have enough money to do the necessary upgrades. Problems would be 1) these upgrades wouldn't happen overnight, & 2) you'd still be stuck with a service contract at your old provider you'll have to pay off. That can get a bit spendy.
What would happen as a result of that report getting into the public's hands is, the providers tripping over each other to provide better service at a cheaper price. That, I think, is a Good Thing...
I know if I was going to use cellphones to detonate bombs, or communicate with others during a plot, I would definately like to know who the most reliable network belonged to.
So let's outlaw cell phones then. Can't trigger a bomb with a cell phone if there are none...
The data has been collected, that in itself is a security threat when the information is kept the out of the hands of the average American.
In such a situation, it is more likely for a specially trained terrorist informant to get ahold of the data than it is for a law abiding citizen.
Freedom of Information Act. How difficult is that? Not very. My question is, why do I need to file a FOIA request to get this information?
Is there anyone left who believes Bush and his "national security" excuses are anything but fascism: government by and for, but not of, corporations? Anyone who believes anyone coming after Bush will be any more accountable, now that Bush has proven how easy it is for even a fool to abuse us this way, while we're actually under attack?
Why do they hate America?
'They' (the politicians) don't hate America, their propaganda tells us that. What they do hate, as shown by their actions, is Americans. Must be something about us having the 'right' to tell them to go get another job on Election Day.
Provided, of course, that they don't indulge in the true American pasttime of stealing the elections...
even if they printed super fake proof IDs with a little dancing hologram Bush in them and they were perfect, it still wouldn't stop any sort of anything they're trying to stop by using them. You'd still have people committing crimes and entering the country illegally. There are much more effective ways of stopping each of those. Plus, they either have to force everyone everywhere to be super strict and basically arrest anyone who can't present it on the spot or people will just let it fly if the person says they forgot it at home or something. Or they could just say they're not from the US and are just visiting if asked to present it. It's really pretty useless. We have SS cards now and that hasn't done anything...isn't that already a universally unique identifying card? They'd be better off just trying to build a mind reading terrorist detector or future predicting quantum device.
Actually, when I got my Social Security card back in '71, it plainly said on the bottom 'Not for use as identification'.
Your ID was stolen becasue of neglegct, and/or improper handling of your information.
Or, taken at gunpoint/knifepoint when you get mugged. So, once a 'bad guy' has your ID, how do you ID yourself to the cops when you make the police report? How long until 'failure to identify' is a crime?
I don't think it would, unless implemented correctly. As it's still up in the air to be implemented, this question is a lot like asking "how do you know that the sun will rise tomorrow?". I'll wait and see, with a hopeful outlook.
And if I give up my guns, everybody will give up their guns and sing Kum-Bay-Ya forever and ever and ever, amen,
The US government still hasn't figured out you just can't legislate human behaviour. Check out Prohibition and the current 'War On Drugs'. And speaking from personal experience, depending on somebody's 'better nature' isn't such a great idea. What happens when you run into somebody that doesn't have a better nature? And how can we make sure these people never serve in government?
Ever seen Hidden Frontier http://www.hiddenfrontier.com/? Pretty good, considering they put it out for about 500 bucks an episode. It's now in its 7th & final season.
According to the Constitution, it doesn't even matter if Wal-mart were actively promoting it. The only thing in the Constitution is that the government cannot promote one religion over another (not that that has ever stopped them...). Wal-mart, the Left Behind people, even Satanists-R-Us are fully within their Constitutional rights to promote whatever religion they want.
Wal-Mart is already selling the 'Left Behind' series of books & videos. Never read or saw them myself; I just don't get into extreme Xianism...
Besides, I always thought muslims DID believe in jesus christ, just not in the same way christians do. Quite similar to how judaïsm believes in jesus christ in a different way than christians. Both religions acknowledge the existence of jesus christ, they just have different interpretations. Perhaps people of these, or other, religions can clarify? Either way; having muslims "star" as the main non-christian group seems suspicious, considering the large amount of other non-christians groups.
From what (little) I've read of Islam, Jesus is considered a prophet. It's been about 30 years or so since I cracked open my copy of the Koran, so I could be mistaken.
Who was it that said the most viscious fights are between brothers? Considering that Muslims and Christians and Jews are spiritual 'brothers', this goes a long way to explaining the conflict.
What really gets me is that if you don't like Israelis, you're anti-Semite, but if you don't like Arabs, you're A-OK, even though Arabs are Semites. Little bit of a double standard there?
And is it me or is it just the media that when a nutjob Xian extremist group gets a lot of airplay, they're usually based in the US? Place seems to be full of 'em these days. Or is it just Free Speech?
I live in Arizona, and I've come to believe McCain is a national disaster. Can you imagine what this bill would mean to the WikiMedia Projects, with all the vandalism they get? It would break them just to file the reports! Nonsense of the highest order.
I USED to like him as my Senator, until after the 2000 race he became the Party's shill. At first, he used to clench his teeth when spewing the Party line as though he didn't agree with it at all and was just doing it to keep the Party's support. Nowadays, though, I kinda wonder.
What really pissed me off was the foreward he reputedly wrote in a book debunking 9-11 conspiracy theories in which he flat out said, 'If you believe in 9-11 conspiracy theories and question the official government explanation, you're unpatriotic'. Rather strange words for a man who made his entire political career on speaking his own opinions.
So? Nothing wrong with paying the rent and eating sometime this month by doing what you enjoy doing. And if people want to drown her in money, who am I to argue?
As opposed to him being Britney Spears?

Who'd wanna keep all those P3N15 3NL4RGM3NT ads???? Recycle those bits & electrons!!!
Dood, we dress this way because it's our uniform.
Need I say more????

Worth a shot, isn't it? What could possibly make it worse?

UHF.
Time to hack my ISP and erase those logs of all that Indonesian plant porn...
