    it doesn't fits in at all with Mac OS X. Well - you can hardly say they're not trying - after all, the reason the current "standard" theme was nicknamed "winstripe" is because it was based on a theme called "pinstripe" - and guess which OS themes called "pinstripe" are generally intended to look like?

    I set up linux with boot camp and it could see the osx partition just fine - now, windows lacks an HFS driver, but surely one could be installed. or a virus could mess up the raw partition itself.

    You can't cmd-tab to dashboard widgets, or have them show up in the dock, etc, either.

    What would be nice would be a "web app wrapper" program in the same vein as the various executable shell/perl script wrappers.

    How about a show about the enterprise-C - sure we'd know how it ends, but it was in service for, according to a novel it was in, 12 years.

    Or the enterprise B, for that matter, which hasn't been explored at all in canon apart from Generations.

    Or some OTHER show.

    Or a show about what enlisted life is like in starfleet.

    Or a show about all the interesting stuff that happens on earth in any era [weren't they planning on building a new continent?]

    There's plenty of room for a new and different show other than some other show's main cast's academy days.

    Except neither star trek nor star wars have lasers (yeah, yeah, except for a few very early episodes of star trek original series) - star trek has "phasers" (and the bad guys have "disruptors" which are apparently the same except they sound more evil) and star wars has "blasters".

    A bit different to what the Wikipedia article says

    I've heard elsewhere that you turn the dial the opposite direction in the southern hemisphere due to the coriolis effect, maybe that's why the number of pulses are reversed? Just kidding of course, but the wikipedia article _does_ mention that it's different in NZ. - a google image search reveals that on NZ phone dials the numbers are arranged differently.

    the EF in EFnet stands for "Eris free" - in the sense of "without Eris". There was a misconfigured server called eris.berkeley.edu and a bunch of server admins got together to make a new network so they could ban it.

    meh. a _screenshot_ contains perfectly regular characters - if it can't ace _that_ then I don't _want_ to see what it does with a scanned page.

    My point was that it could be proportional to production - if you make a dozen light bulbs, you get one cent - if you make 100 billion light bulbs, you get 83 million dollars. Is that really so hard to understand?

    But wouldn't the best way to destroy the market for _actual_ porn be to make sure that simulated (CGI, anime, people who just _look_ young but are actually over 18) material is legal so that it can easily outcompete it?

    From what I've read elsewhere online, 60 lumens is equivalent to 20 watts incandescent.

    (in other words, if you replace all your incandescents with these, your house will be a lot darker)

    2) kitchen-table light - on a rheostat. Don't even BOTHER putting these on a rheostat. You don't even get the normal span of an incandescent out of it.

    I assume "rheostat" (being a word for a variable resistor) means the kind of switch where you turn a knob or move the lever in a halfway position to cut the amount of current going to the light? Most CF bulbs will have a warning not to use them on this sort of switch, it's a fire hazard because it doesn't allow them to get up to their full efficiency (thus they'll generate a lot more heat at the lower voltages) unless they're specifically designed to allow it.

    As for LEDs - there are some on thinkgeek/etc but they're nowhere near as much light as normal incandescent/cfl bulbs. http://www.thinkgeek.com/gadgets/lights/7aa8/ - doesn't say there, but 60 lumens is about equivalent to a 25-watt incandescent bulb.

    How about this: minor CFL manufacturers get smaller checks.
