This idea isn't horrible, only problem is just WHO gets to decide who is an 'expert'? Some would argue that Daryl McBride is an expert in lawsuits, because he's filed so many...but you know...

Sure netbsd runs on lots of arhcitectures, but it hardly runs good on any. They work and work to get it ported everywhere, and once it works on a single box of that architecture, that's enough for them and they move on, look at SPARC, they don't support U1's, and they didn't even have SMP support until NetBSD 2.0
I know that I personally don't like my MP3's under 128kbps, that's where I draw the line, but if I was paying for Apple's service, I'd expect better than 128kbps for my money.
I do, however, listen to 128kbps streaming mp3s. But, those are free streams.

Not to be a perfectionist, but -U (capitalized) is not recommended, because it forces upgrades only (which might sound good, but a number of things get into portage, just to be downgraded later because of bugs/security concerns)
emerge -uD world is what you should do, and yes some things that you have that might be unstable (~x86) will want to be downgraded, but that's why you need to read man portage, and learn how to use/etc/portage/package.keywords:P

RedHat always has some weird reason to change random stuff that really made no difference seemingly just to piss people off, like xinetd, on regular systems, it was just inetd, then redhat had to be all different and put an x in front of it. *shakes head*
