  10. From TFA: on Refilling Ink Cartridges Now a Crime? · · Score: 0

Will patent owners exploit this decision as an opportunity to impose over-reaching restrictions on formerly permitted post-sale uses, repairs, modifications, and resale? Will consumers soon confront "single use only, not for resale" notices on more and more products? Will innovators stumble over labels announcing "modifications prohibited"?

Obviously, we can't know yet. But the danger is there.
    ---

So, in actuality, we dont really know if the companies/corporations in the printer/ink business are going to attempt to use this to go after people. Additionally, how would they enforce this? I dont think they're going to be looking for the individual joe blows who refill their own ink cartridges on this...so who/what is the real target with this new law? It seems to me like this is more of an attempt by the editors to get /.'ers rabbling over something that may or may not ever have an impact on them than anything else? Rather than getting all upset and rabbling about it, how about we look at the bigger picture of what is going on around here...what is the real effect this is going to have on us?

Verisign has continually been abusing the power that has been handed out to them. Two such examples are its mailing of false renewal notices, and its most recent exploit: sitefinder.verisign.com. Now, nearly all mistyped names will be sent to Verisign where they can do whatever they like to the unwitting user. There are even categories on sitefinder.verisign.com where one can browse and go to sites which are undoubtedly paying Verisign for the space. Please take this, and the hundreds or thousands of e-mails you will receive, into consideration, and exercise the power that ICANN has. Verisign has continually been abusing and tricking people through deceptive business practices, and this should be the last straw. Verisign should not only be removed from it's post, but it should also be fined for its numerous escapades designed to make money. Sincerely, Jay Taylor

At work i would ask myself "what on earth are they thinking!?" probably 15-20 times a day. No Joke. Anyways, i quit fry's last week since i'm heading back to BYU at the end of the month anyways... the bottom line is, they pay everyone $8.00 an hour (except for management or higher who get a salary) and for 8 bucks an hour, what do ya expect? they don't even train the employees, so whatever we knew, it would be from what i learn from being interested in computers as a hobby... so expecting the salespeople at fry's to be familiar with linux..just isnt going to happen on a large scale. fry's can't retain knowledgeable people cause it's such a shizzy place to work. and as for their thinking in bundling "ThizLinux" ...yeah, like i said, "what were these people thinking??" pretty much sums it up.
