Why is it that they(windows people) likes to mix their machines. "a storage server AND a workstation". I guess that they can live with limited/less uptime.

Reminds me of a former job I had, where the W2K notes server / mail gateway also was CD-burner and the database server also was the admins internet downloading machine and just a few times it went wrong, and it needed to be rebooted.

I mean, the people that bitch about the hardware is to expensive, are the ones that would not understand that you have to bring the entire server down to replace a harddrive. and who's "spare/family time" is going to be allocated for the job? :)
However for a near-line backup system it could work, or any other system where you can afford it to have downtime during business hours.

Besides from that, they seem to fall between 2 chairs here, whats with the geforce card for a storage server.

  15. popups on Norton Antivirus 2004 Ad Blocking - Tough Call? · · Score: 1

Personally the popups push it over the limit for me.
I know there is no such thing as a free lunch and that banners ads can't even pay the bandwidth bills. And so, I have always acceptet ads on webpates. Of course if the noise/signal level changed and the message drowns I often choose not to visit that site again.
Still, after surfing for an hour, there's about 20 popup windows that I need to close and many people are annoyed by this.
So talking about ways to avoid popups were not limited to porn surfing but everyday use of the internet and the issue and seeking help of how to avoid it could now be done without hinting your surfing habbits. This have turned more attention to ad blocking programs and utilites, and I think that once people get enough of pop-ups, they might choose a program that will block ads all together.
Personally I have found that Google tools is the best solution for me, works great and the price is right. I have not found any payware that has better functionality in the matter of blocking popups. Just make sure to read the notice from Google before choosing your installation.

For the unlucky people that still are on dialups, the webdesigns of today really tests your patience, and if I were on dial up, I would look for any options to speed up my line, and eliminating ads, by installing a blocker would be worth my while.

"They are not afraid to tell the truth, that everything is just fine", to quote Simpsons.
It became painfully clear under the war in Iraq where they often choose not to cover different events that would provide the viewer with the information they needed to be able to form their own opinion. An example could be how the little victories were told over and over again but the defeats and losses not mentioned with one word.
It seemed embarrasing and akward in these sattelite times where one just had to turn to other channels (even BBC) and the shortcomings of Fox "news" became clear.

And I must say that you really learn about the quality(or lack of) your internet provider when using it. Very annoiying to have just a 30 sec drop every hour, which it turned out that I had.
Also during the last power black-out, I found my old battery powered radio(and imagine, the battery worked) and I was nice to hear what was going on. My first thought when it went black was to turn on the tv and see what was going on. 8-) The cell phone network I was on died after 5 hours. and so the old radio was the only way for me to know what was going on. I did find one cellphone connection working when going to the top of the building, I could browse the news sites using GPRS and Opera on my Nokia.
But still, the radio still was the only reliable/proper functionen source of information.
