    We will have a manned outpost on the Moon soon, and Musk will have his Mars colony up and running soon too. It is time to start thinking about this. Also, once we put factories in space they will need to be defended.

    Unless you make a road where ALL the cars are self-driving and are maintained separately just for self-driving cars then it will never become reality. Self-driving is one of those engineering problems where the first 90% is achievable, but the last 10% is not. The end of Moore's Law has put a further nail in the coffin since you cannot count on exponentially increasing processor power.

    Why is Bill Gates spending his billions on trying to improve life here on Earth? He should be building rockets to take us OFF Earth. We don't want to be stuck on this rock in a gravity well forever. What if an asteroid hits? We will all die. And why bother teaching people here on Earth anyway? We can just send the brightest of those on Earth to the stars. It is our destiny.

    Stop calling it AutoPilot. It is just drivers assist, just like every other car manufacturer puts in their high end vehicles. Now every jerk thinks they can fall asleep in their Tesla while cruising down the highway.

    We know. Americans are smart enough to know more than one system of measurements. Only Europeans can't seem to grasp the concept.

    Yes we do. If there is a murder, burglary, mugging it is going to be "detected" and reported no matter where it occurs by the populace. The only crimes that won't get reported are minor violations (traffic, etc). Police rarely detect crimes - they respond to crimes after they happen.

    That really makes no sense for most crimes. Look at murder or burglary: it doesn't matter if police are in the neighborhood "noticing crimes" or not, it is going to get reported equally theoretically. The only way that applies is for victimless crimes. Traffic violations aren't going to be reported unless a police notices it.

  22. That isn't where institutionalized learning came from. The idea of institutionalized learning was to create a ruling class, not factory workers. Do you think factory workers were educated? Institutionalized learning came way before factories.

    It isn't just a piece of paper. The idea is that there is some minimum standard required to achieve in order to become a engineer/priest/whatever. There is nothing wrong with gate-keeping.
