Anyone who really knows anything wouldn't think that autonomous driving is possible at all with todays (or any reasonably near future) technology. Autonomous driving falls into the "80% is easy" part. The last 20% is the tough part, and might never be solved. People are way too optimistic about automated driving and technology in general.

Let me axe you a question: what makes you think there will be space robots in the next century and they will be able to move planets? I am fascinated that you guys think all this is going to happen somehow. Is this something that people think because they hear "you can do anything" from their parents?

You know why we haven't put things into Venus's atmosphere for long periods of time? BECAUSE IT ISN'T POSSIBLE. It would get destroyed very quickly.

I never understood the "floating cities on Venus" nutters. How are you going to float a city on balloons? Venus literally rains acid and has 300MPH winds. Tell you what: try it here on Earth first.

Yeah, let simply choose to go with CO2 and raise the pressure to 0.12 atm. Did you not read the article? There isn't enough CO2 available to do that. Even if it were, you couldn't release it. Hence the nutty "nuke it" idea.

"Now, if we do that, how long will it take to strip this back down to .6 atm of today's mars atmosphere? 2000-4000 years".

No it won't. Try 2 months.

No there isn't. How are you going to get to the water? Dig for it? Give me a break. The radiation would kill you in a week.

  10. Exactly. If these space nutters would actually think about fixing problems on Earth, rather than trying to leave it, I would have more respect for them.

  11. LOL. I always say the same thing. People think that since computers got faster, anything is possible. I wonder what they are going to think when they realize that Moores Law is dead.

Actually: yes. You space nuts way overestimate our technological skill. We are still shooting rockets into LEO and considering that a massive advancement because we made it slightly cheaper.

  13. Exactly. I can't think of a single thing that I was bought that is perfect. Same thing happens with restaurant reviews. Some people post it is the greatest restaurant ever created on Earth. Then some other guy gives it a 1 star because his service was slow.

  14. Show me one 5 star product. That is the problem with reviewers. There are too many 5 star reviews and too many 1 star review. Some people will give a product a 5 because their expectations are met, and a 1 star if the shipping is slow. Useless.

  15. iPhone cables are the worst. The reviews are almost 90% fake there.

  16. Because no product works exactly as advertised and doesn't break (short of abuse).

  17. This is accurate. There are way too many five star reviews. If you want to look at real reviews, look at the 3 star ones that have comments. They are usually balanced reviews. No product is five star perfect. Even a 4 star review is suspect. What amazon should have is a scale from 1 to 10. The spammers will always choose 9 or 10.

  18. He is saying "we are going to spend taxpayers money on an idea I have". DARPA programs are full of great ideas.
