  5. Digital computers are reaching the end on Intel Says It Will Move Away From 'Tick-Tock' Development Cycle · · Score: 3, Interesting

This will make a LOT of people here mad, but the exponential growth computational power of digital computers is ending. We can no longer count of the computers of tomorrow to be significantly faster or have more memory than today. If you have been following the industry closely you can already see start to happen 10 years ago. So we can forget about projections that used the argument of exponential growth creating the "Singularity" or "AI". There just simply won't be enough processor power available with classical digital computers. The computer you use 10 years from now will look and perform a lot like the one you have today.

It is 2016. You need to use libraries. You just copy them to your local repo so they are in a known state if you use them.

  7. If you used git and used your own local branches for your dependencies you would avoid this issue. You only pull from upstream when there are changes you need to incorporate. It sounds like a lot of people were doing it wrong.

  8. Re:Lesson for next time ... on How One Dev Broke Node and Thousands of Projects In 11 Lines of JavaScript (theregister.co.uk) · · Score: 1

No, that isn't possible in 2016. You cannot do development at this point without depending on some libraries. The trick is to create a personal git fork of all your dependencies. So if the original disappears you still have your copies.

For most people Music is disposable. The biggest "artists" right now are Adele, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Drake. Their current "hits" will be listened to for a couple of months and then discarded. This is why streaming music is so successful. It isn't worth the $0.99 investment to download it.

  13. Completely wrong. American peak oil didn't occur as predicted. But thanks for proving my point. There was a "half century" left about a "half century" ago. You guys keep moving the "peak oil" time further into the future. One day you will be right!

  15. Yes. Really.

  16. No, the US actually REDUCED their CO2 output. But the EU increased it. You can go check it yourself. Please explain how that is the fault of the Democrats or Republicans.

  17. Until someone can explain it. So go ahead and explain it. But you can't. Why DOES the EU keep increasing their CO2 year over year? They must be denialists or Republicans?

  18. No. It is right, right, right. Miami will never admit it because they love the property taxes.

  23. Sure. Here are some good books written by your fellow "peak oil" nutcases:

"Peak Oil and the Second Great Depression" (2010-2030) "Peak Oil Survival" (1970s) "When Oil Peaked" (1970s)
