    He was one of those guys who was hyping that the world was going to literally end because of the Y2k bug. And he was trying to sell his y2k books (Y2K Bomb 2000 or something) off of the hype. Pretty despicable if you ask me. I don't think he is worthy of an article here.

    It isn't doomed to fail. VPN blocking works. Sure, you can get around it, but for most people that is going to be a hassle. Just like Internet censorship, or fighting piracy. It isn't going to fail for most people.

    It is possible. But there is no need to do all that. Google, Microsoft, Apple, etc all HAPPILY handed over access to their databases. Emails, messages, sites visited, profiles, etc. It is too much trouble to mass tap traffic. Just go to the endpoint datastores and search through those. You cannot mass monitor all the traffic on the Internet. You can selectively monitor a subset of it, and ALL the endpoint datastores. People should be mad that Apple, Google, etc are happy to hand over all the data they collected on you. But those companies are making more and more money every quarter so obviously people don't care.

    The microwave comms are encrypted. You can intercept them if you like, but they are point to point and this can be detected. It isnt very easy to detect a tapped cable. In fact that is why agencies choose to tap cables.

    The letter agencies in DC use microwave comms not fiber. Fiber can be easily tapped.

    Yeah. I am pretty sure you are wrong on that. I live in DC, and the average home price in my neighborhood is $900k. We have overhead cables. You are just one of the suburban types who thinks new plastic houses are the "good" area of town.

    Right...most new development uses underground cables, but not everywhere here. They are eventually going to bury our cables here in DC, but it will likely take a few billion dollars and decades.

    I live in Washington DC. The power goes out regularly because the power lines are overhead and not buried. Arguably DC is a "critical" city in the US. Yet we all survive. The country probably does better when DC is out of commission, like it will be next week with the big snow storm coming. You still need to pay your tribute on time, I mean taxes.
