Now we know the REAL strategy. The point of the entire excercise is for Microsoft and their cronies to destroy the GPL and free software. Who didn't see this coming? It is time for WAR!
Strange comment considering that there is a download available. Wouldn't that make it "non-vaporware"? I would say chances are very good that you will see Longhorn released.
I don't understand your point. Of course the PalmOS devices require less hardware -- they attempt to do less. The PocketPC is a full fledged PDA, with a full multithreaded OS and a large subset of the WIN32 API which enables developers to do more.
Palm will be dead within 5 years, and Symbian within 7. What people always seem to forget is that the PocketPC and Smartphones all use the familiar WIN32 API, which is the MOST HEAVILY USED API ON THE PLANET. Any developer familiar with desktop Windows can create a PocketPC/smartphone app. You can even use the same familiar tools. That coupled with the tight integration of the Windows desktop will eventually destroy Palm and Symbian and their poor toolset.
Yes, I agree. Microsoft really knocked it out of the ballpark with their 2003 series. Their Smartphones are poised to break through in a big way with the next wave of releases based on the Smartphone 2003 OS. I think in 10 years mobile devices will be the bulk of their revenue stream.

Wow, I thought it was because he had big muscles and wanted even bigger ones so he came to train here in the U.S. Also I thought it was because he wanted to be in movies.
I had no idea it was because of his politcal-econonmic ideology...

Thats called a "Pocket PC phone". See http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devices/dev icesdisplay.aspx?module=deviceDisplay;PPCPhone;ame ricas;31 or just get a PocketPC PDA and add a GSM card.
Er, Linux IS competition. I don't get you guys...

Yes, but lets say you got one for free -- what would you do with it?
What would you do with something like this? I can think of some contrived examples, but honestly I do not see a use. Do you have any ideas?
Xybernaut already has the wearable PC angle covered.
"There's also a need to market the distributions and show that the OS can do amazing things for the desktop user that Windows currently can't... "
Like what for instance?
Er, "Vaporware" means that it will never be released. Or did the definition change?

I think its cool how you call them "M$". That is totally eleet.

"WinCE doesn't scale DOWN very well so they are attempting to create a market between the PDA and desktop"
What are you talking about? Doesn't scale down? It runs on a cell phone. How much smaller do you want to get?
Uh, how is this POSSIBLY marked as a troll??? It is a valid statement. Is it just because it might be construed as "anti-linux"?

In a world with $199 PocketPC's and sub $100 PalmOS devices, a $449-$499 device without builtin wireless doesn't cut it.
Its a competitive PDA market out there right now, and Dell is the one that is cleaning up. They have the right idea.
does it run Windows CE???
Yeah, Microsoft software crashes, never works and is unusable. Give it a rest please, FUD gets boring after a while.
BTW, one purpose of "syncing" your PDA/phone is to get a backup of all the data in case of catastrophic loss (like losing your device).

All Microsoft smartphones can sync with your computer (Outlook). You can definitely do daily scheduling on a MS smartphone.
"It was loose in the serial port, and would lose contact with the app,"
:-)
Wow, a post where both "lose" and "loose" were used properly - even in the same sentence!
This guy isn't a "looser" at least!
Yes, I did too! Very cool.
Did I mention Micro$haft sux0rs? And Open Source is the only way to develop? I'm just trying to get modded up here!
Do I need to pay SCO $699 for this release too? Or does the license I purchased from them cover this as well?
Yeah good point. They are all out to get us.
But is it mandatory? You can either use the tech or not. Therefore it isn't an invasion of any privacy.
Thats the death knell for this tech. No one is going to install "special floor tiles" for an application that may or may not have any practical use.
Next idea please.
