If you need "rock solid" stability and a lot of support you should pay for the Workstation product. Otherwise Fedora is fine. Most home users do not need the Workstation features and Fedora is the right route to go if for some reason they must use Linux.
Of course, Linux isn't ready for the home user anyway, so the point is moot. They should be using Windows at home.
Very good points. This also points out the fallacy that an Open Source product cannot die. How many times have we heard zealots say "Hey, if they walk away from the product, someone else will just keep maintaining it and keeping it going! Its not a big deal, you aren't trapped like if you used MICROSOFT'S products!!!" Yeah right.
There is no gap. Home users should use Fedora and small business users should use the Enterprise product. I don't understand why people are thinking that the Enterprise product is ungodly expensive.
"These are mom & pop shops (in the dozens) who will NEVER be able to afford your Enterprise offer."
Why? Why are people so unwilling to pay money to support something that runs and is so vitally important to their business? Its just as important (IMO more important) than a bookkeeper who gets paid $40-$60k per year. Why so cheap when it comes to software? Is it because the free ride is over?
Motorola has already "chosen" Microsoft and Windows CE. Go to Best Buy or any cellphone store and buy a MPx200 phone. Soon to be released is the MPx220 as well. This linux based phone is just vaporware to see if there is any interest in a linux based phone. You will likely never see it for sale as their is no point to choose an unproven (in the cellphone world) OS/UI combo over a proven one (Microsoft or Symbian).
Then why not take it out on Redhat (RHAT), VaLinux (LNUX), Sun (SUNW), or ANY OTHER COMPANY ON THE PLANET? Whats the obsession with Microsoft? Is it envy?
Yes, but this site isn't about software technology. It just doesn't warrant that over 50% of all the subjects are related to Microsoft in some fashion. Its just a strange obsession; I suppose driven by jealousy.
What nature? You mean the "make as much money as is possible for their shareholders at all costs" nature? Like every publically traded company on the planet?
You must mean because they are so SUCCESSFUL at it, that it warrants obsessing about them?
Why is EVERY STORY turning into a shot at Microsoft at some point? Is it jealousy because they have made millionaires and billionaires of many of their rank and file employees?
Just give it a rest, and focus on News for Nerds and Stuff that Matters for a bit.
"They weren't making money on commercial RedHat releases. There are a few zealots like myself that run down to CompUSA (or whatever) to grab the latest release when it hits the shelves, but it was mostly to show our support for the company. "
Why would you go out of your way to "show your support" to a CORPORATION? Incidentally a CORPORATION whose executives are making HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars off of stock options, as well as seven figure salaries? Does that seem insane to anyone else?
Don't lie. Your company doesn't support OSS projects. C'mon now - admit it. You just use OSS so you don't have to pay licensing fees for software that is "good enough" for the short term. Don't be ashamed to admit it, it makes sense to do so.
This is a typical OSS user. Wants all the benefits, but doesn't want to pay. Based their ENTIRE business around an open source OS, but admits they they haven't paid RedHat much. Did they support the OSS community? Did they support and OSS project? Not likely.
How about hiring an OSS developer to maintain all those thousands of machines you so desperately rely on? The gravy train is over.
VaLinux (LNUX on NASDAQ) the parent company of slashdot is losing money hand over fist. One of their only profitable ventures is this site, so the editors are being instructed to keep up the hit counts of site as much as possible.
This is why you are seeing such trashy "articles", mostly focused around SCO and "M$" - and you also see an increase on the rate of stories posted.

What does this have to do with Bush? The electronic voting initiative was started under Bill Clinton.
Get your tinfoil hat ready, Gore.

This has been answered already by him. He recommends the Enterprise software. You ARE an enterprise aren't you?

What do you think will be Redhats main revenue stream(s) next year? In 5 years? In 10 years?
Yeah but they would've made it up in volume!!!

Now there is some irrefutable logic. Definitely +5 Insightful.
Sick of gentoo zealots throwing plugs in completely unrelated topics? Me too!
I don't understand why that would be ironic? Is the EFF and FSF enemies of Microsoft? I don't see that anywhere on their web sites.
Yeah, you were not "M$ bashing". Whatever.
Hopefully one day you will have to graduate and enter the real world.

BTW, "You're" = "You are".
Were they the "Evil American" molecules?
God, you people are stupid.

Nope, because normal people don't give a crap about your petty "anti-M$" jealousy and don't care who owns Google - they are interested in RESULTS.
BTW, no one knows about Teoma or cares either.
Yes, I agree.
He makes a valid point.
Er, this is for the POCKETPC. You know, a mobile device, PDA? This is a natural interface for PDA's. Tapping isn't.
