    Wait, what? How do you guys not know how this works? Location based advertising has been around for years. How do you possibly not know that one of the biggest ad agencies on the planet (Google) DOESN'T do this?

    You could add all that to IRC or Jabber or whatever if you want to, but the real answer is that Slack is sold because it makes you dependent on a single corporation when you use it. Even if you run your own "Slack" server which you probably can.

    ...much faster than "climate change". The fact that people are ignoring local pollution to focus on climate change is outrageous. You can't sell carbon credits to "fix" local pollution though.

    I think the nerds have all retired at this point and the industry is being taken over by people who are used to closed systems like tablets, phones, etc. They don't understand the concept of "personal computing".

    Exactly. But a genius like you would have a seperate OS running on top of the host OS for EVERY concurrent application. And each OS would be a slightly different version.

    Oh, so it sounds like Java apps again. Every generation reinvents the same thing, badly. Too bad Moore's Law is dead. Eventually we will need to start programming again.

    Real greybeards call them "programs", because believe it or not everything that runs on a computer is a "program". I know, hard to believe, but computers still work the same way they did since the 1950's.
