You can include Owsley Stanley amongst the naysayers. While its hard to imagine billions of humans and their herds not farting up the globe dissent and criticism are always a good thing.
I don't know how well this applies to where you live but the rats that nest in our house are vegetarians and bring in their own food (acorns). Before we bought the house it had obviously been the home for many generations of rats. In my ongoing war I only began to edge ahead of their rate of reproduction and discovery of new ways in by following the advice in a manual distributed by local authorities. Vertically mounting the old-style Victor wooden traps on walls or other paths has had a 100% kill rate for me. When they stop going off the colony is either dead or gone. When I hear them back I look for pathways and setup new traps. Eventually I would like every thing closed in under our house but that will take a while. Check out this guide: http://www.msmosquito.com/pdf/Rat.pdf
Steel wool works great unless its a hole through the floor with a copper pipe. Don't put steel wool on copper. The best guide I have ever read is here: http://www.msmosquito.com/pdf/Rat.pdf I basically followed the advice here (especially how and where to mount traps) and have mitigated an ongoing problem. Until I get all the footings closed in and the pampass grass out around the house I know there will be rats. I don't use poison since the neighbors cats regularly hunt around our house. I have had them chew threw almost everything and as soon as one entry is blocked they start looking (and finding) new ways in to nest.
I thought it was the Jesus acid I took at a Dead show in Eugene that never quite seemed to wear off. Now I know its just my hopeless espresso dependency. Three years ago I got my own machine. Two years ago Peet's opened up a few blocks away. Its the Marin Methadone clinic, once Peet's gets its hooks in you are done. I need a miracle, triple espresso, everyday.
A mod for Unreal Tournament is what drove me to buy my first "gaming" rig. When I saw Infiltration being played and my friend explained it was made by other players using the unreal editor something resonated and I have been a mod fan ever since. Sadly, the unreal franchise has lost its credibility for supporting mods despite the success mods brought them Same with EA and the Battlefield series. A great mod revived the franchise yet they cripple real modders now from being able to do inventive, creative changes. The only champion for mods I suppose is Valve. I buy all my games from Valve now.
First off, congratulations for seemingly defying the laws of physics by not getting obliterated in the crash. Assuming what you say is true perhaps you could further illuminate another aspect of trucking I find shocking.
I want to preface this by saying I love Mexico as a place to visit and have always worked with Mexicans here in CA so race isn't an issue. There are cultural differences that do matter. Isn't true that after NAFTA rigs from Mexico could enter the US? They may not be leaving the border area but their trucks can't possibly have the same safety standards, right?
There was a devastating fuel tanker that crashed in Oakland closing the freeway a few years ago and another one crashed today. I thought there were stringent inspections without stopping at scales. How are these guys getting away with driving illegally in unsafe rigs?
What manner of threat comes after public scolding? Is there a the stern email in the works? Perhaps a terse statement read by the president on the lawn in front of the white house or during his fireside chat? That'll teach those pirates.
Very interesting to read this about CF ls LED. The problem is LED availability and lack of awareness. I knew if I scoured the coments long enough I might see something that may prove my experience true. CF is not the panacea it looks to be for green living. I am a general contractor who installs lots of new fixtures and have been pushing CF pretty hard mostly based on the longer life cycle claims. Its not as big a deal now but when the bulbs used to be 4x incandescent costs I would get call backs for dead bulbs. Not a big problem since I always said I would replace if people found they didn't like the color or feel (never heard delay complaints) but more often the not it was for bulbs that died shortly after installation. In fact having replaced all the bulbs that aren't on dimmers or other electronic controls in my own home last year when the prices first really dropped I would guess about 20% have since been replaced. I am leaning back towards high quality incandescents in better fixtures that light the right places well since seeing is a pretty high importance is most peoples lives. If we want to reduce power shouldn't we find ways to turn off idle adapters and large home electronics in stand-by mode? If what I am lead to believe is true this would be a huge savings but most people have no idea it is even happening. Please post links to LED bulb and fixture suppliers. I have literally resorted to trying some custom mods of old outdoor fixtures as prototypes for super-low consumption solutions.
Thanks for reminding me to set this up for my wife's ibook. I have been using superduper and an external drive but she never remembers to backup her work. She already has the.mac account and the never having to think about it part down pat.
The manager who fired them must have said to himself, "They have email? Computers cost alot of money! We are paying these guys waaaaay too much. This stops here, NOW!"
This has to be the best troll ever. I feel like I am the moth, there is the flame, gonna die, cant turn back now, going in anyway! I think this is funny for two reasons. One symantec has no interest in securing anything but profits and secondly the fact that symantec could make the "news" by publicly admitting something so obvious to most saavy consumers is all the proof I need that the joke is me. Expect Symantec to announce its Firefox browser bundle soon.
Yes but mainly due to dvds being released by the stufios so soon after the theater run is over. Movies from earlier in the year are shipped for Christmas sales now and more than half the screeners we got were early retail packages complete with all the ads. The "traditional" screeners have annoying pop-up messages which kills the mood of most films. We still prefer to watch movies at the cinema so most of the screeners go unopened. Free crap is still crap.
Do you think the DV tape is an acceptable short term solution? I have no idea how long the data on those tapes lasts. Currently I have my wedding backed up on a hard drive and the original tapes but mostly because I never got around to burning disks. Now I am wondering what a good long term data plan as all my personal and work photos are digital and I would like to have them in 20 years. Would a portable hard drive and a firesafe work or do I have do have to backup the backups every few years. Its not that hard to do I guess and huge storage disks are cheap now. Just wondering what others are doing.
I have bought so many Ubi products over the last few years this is a real insult to people who dont pirate. My next Ubi purchase is going to support Daemon tools. That is a great application I need to ue occasionally. Ubi is just alienating customers.
Apparently this game has been designed for the Xbox first with litle regard for the PC user. Another big disappointment for a title using the Unreal engine. I loved the original game. This sequel does nothing for me. It couldnt be less interesting. I was hoping this would easily be the game of the year but Max Payne and Raven Shield were both better. Yes its a "just" a demo but I wont pay $50 for this dung heap.
Ka-ching, what happened to the air bars?

Its may be dated but theres nothing else like it really: http://infiltration.sentrystudios.net/
Infiltration is still a great mod and in no way resembles TO or CS. Anyone who still has a copy of UT around and hasnt tried it should.
