  1. Bad and Best! on Bad Videogame Acting Chronicled · · Score: 2, Interesting

Symphony of the night , best game in PSX, really bad acting as well, the text was fine for a game, but the pronunciation was laughable.
    ie:
"I guess the same could be said about all religions".(Faggy sesame street villain voice.)
"What!?" (Completely over the top "David Hasselhof is my role model for voice acting" voice )
"But enough about that, have at you!" (less Faggy, saturday morning cartoon villain voice.)

Now these have the BEST voice acting:

Soulreaver: Ah!!! now thats what I call good voice acting! (with a slight shakespearian Tone as well mind you) first time I heard someone at a videogame without laughing. Part 2 was ok, but a bit over the top.
    "Raziel you've been choosen."

Metal gear solid: snake, best game voice ever. Period.

Silent hill: part 1 was good, but part 2 is amazing, the voice acting in the end may just move you to tears, no kidding.

  2. Not entirely correct on DVD-Enabled Consoles Do Better? · · Score: 1

There are several reasons why the Gamecube is struggling in the game market, censorship, not such good specs, low space and a different format (mini dvd) and low space for developers to work with but mostly is the fact that Nintendo doesn't really care for all of this problems (and it shows) they know that as soon as their console is oriented to their target audience (kids and parents who buy consoles for their kids, wither you like to admit or not) and while their GBA's sale well (GBA adapter anyone?) and their steady hardcore fanbase buys their franchise titles, they are just going to be fine. (or at least thats what they think) About nintendo's reasons for no dvd, Im going on a limb here but since Nintendo has always wanted to give the "gamecube is harmless to kids" message to parents, and they have encouraged this by not allowing "controversial" or "too mature" titles in it (like "silent hill" or "grand theft auto") how they could have carried with that statement if their kids could watch R-rated and even X-rated DVDS in their consoles?
Call me crazy, but I strongly believe at some point this thought crossed in the mind of executives and thats the real reason why they decided the DVD was a big "No no" By the time of the E3, sony had sold 51.2 million of ps2, Microsoft 13 million of XBOX and Gamecube 9.4 million Gc's since 31/03/2003 (according EGM magazine) you may cry me a river but I dont live in the united states and I can tell you the following: is difficult to find a gamecube here (not to mention latest games) only 5 out of 20 electronics stores has games for the console and only 2 out of 20 has the console itself, all stores however sell PS2 and XBOX consoles, accesories and software.

The line up for next year (as far as I know): PS2: Final fantasy XI, MGS 3, Gran Turismo 4
XBOX: Halo 2, Doom 3, half life 2, DOA online
GC:Mario Kart Dash, Rogue Squadron 3, FF Chronicles, Pacman(?) and pokemon tv.

  3. Well if things turn all right on The Simpsons Meet Grand Theft Auto · · Score: 1

If this game turns out to be all right, then we will really have some great news, the first good simpsons game in history! (I'm keeping my fingers crossed!) anyone else thinks this would be a great pc title?

p.s. Guys seriously don't you think is time for CmdrTaco to stop playing Enter the Matrix? I mean, he is your friend, council him to some grand theft auto vice city, or warcraft III or something. I mean 3 months of playing nothing but that ,just can't be healthy.

  4. Re:Great idea. on The Simpsons Meet Grand Theft Auto · · Score: 4, Interesting

Hmm.. well this may seem odd but my kid (5 year old) and I, do play gta vc together, there are several things to do in GTA without being violent, we ussually just cruise around do stunts play taxi and pizza delivery sometimes we ride in the helicopter and do some ambulance and fire truck missions We ussually turn the siren on for no reason.
We also use the "hopingirl" trick and "invite" people to the car. Is a lot of fun really.
To avoid car jacking violence all you have to do is look for parked cars, or just stick to one car and taxis.

Im not saying the game is for kids is not but with some parental supervision and some careful driving is just a city live/driving simulation.

  5. Re:Dont judge a book by its cover. on Grabbed By The Ghoulies - Grasped · · Score: 1

I'm going to go a bit of topic just to share with those out of you who werent lucky enough to enjoy conker subtle and ellegant MP mode here are some of the game styles it featured.

    The Heist: (My personal favorite)
4 weasels in a competition to rob a bank's "money bag" maim each other using several weapons including a 1 shot rocket launcher, tommy guns and kitchen knives. the catch: once you had the money bag you were unable to defend yourself your only chance was to run like hell to base. Seriously seing a cartoon weasel grasping his troath pierced by a kitchen knife is like watching a Walt Disney cartoon from hell.

    Jew invasion (not actual title):
A jew family arriving to an island try to pass through a barriage of artillery fire from Killer Teddy bears (no, I'm not kidding) you take the side of the jews elluding bullets and running to base or the teddies blasting the poor guys off the island. Fun for the whole family!

Dinos and cavemans (not actual title):
Following the "jew invassion" theme, a tribe of caveman try to foolishly steal the eggs from the lair of some tyranosaurus rex's you either take the caveman or the dinos, the dinos proceed to eat the caveman on sight (in a pretty gross way I may add) or feed them to their cubs. Is like aliens vs predator with cartoons!

    Deathmatch (not actual title):
The ordinary deathmatch you've seen everywhere conker style! this one features the characters you've seen through the game (weasels, teddies, etc) avoiding traps all over the place like heating stoves, electrical charges, flamethrowers, etc. And when you play in the bathroom you get to use the ultimate weapon your own urine! (I wish I was kidding) you can even held a contest on who pees farther!

There were other (the only one I didnt like was one involving tanks) but this are the ones I remember the most (for obvious reasons).

Well there's a taste of what RARE can do, and is coming soon to your xbox live.

    enjoy!

  6. Dont judge a book by its cover. on Grabbed By The Ghoulies - Grasped · · Score: 1

I think is way too soon to judge "Grabbed". first of all, this are the same guys who have made a great title from just about every cliche genere in the market: fps (goldeneye) beat'emup (killer instinct great combo system and gameplay) and even a Kart game! (diddy kong racing, check it out if you dont believe me.)

Second: the XBOX needed a good family title badly, the closest thing there was is "Blink the boring cat" and er... Halo (I guess).
Now Rare could have pulled a simple Mario clone but they went for a kid fighting ghosts and vampires with lots of comic relief instead, which one you would've preffered?

Anyway is not like this is the only title they are working on, conker MP may sound dissapointing but as far as I remember conkers multiplayer was a blast (I still play "the heist" from time to time). I can't wait to see them on xbox live (I wonder if you could use the sound filters to sound like a weasel hmm?) also you have to remember conker (and perfect dark) came out in a bad time, the n64 was in it's way out and cartridges were considered way too expensive by then (not to mention you needed the memory expansion) so many people never played the title and just knew about it from reviews.

Maybe we just set our expectations with them too high and thats all whatever the case may be we will just have to wait and see, this guys may still have a few tricks up their sleeves.

  8. Re:Scarier than Silent Hill? I think not. on New Doom III Preview Illuminates · · Score: 1

If you had problems playing Silent Hill, you probably wont be able to play Doom 3 at all, imagine a vr device that can put you inside silent hill check things from the view of James Sunderland or Harry Mason meeting those demons eye to eye thats a slight idea of how scary Doom 3 is. It doesn't matter how buff you are or how many weapons you have, Doom has a little surprise for you... I dont want to ruin it (you can read the spoiler if you are feeling too curious) but believe me it really doesn't matter how much guns you have. those guys, the zombies and the rest of them, they never die... I smell fear!

  9. oh no on New Doom III Preview Illuminates · · Score: 2, Interesting

Damn! it looks like ID really freaked out after seing half life 2 completely stealing the E3 show this year. Doom 3 already has a nice physics engine (check the last e3 quicktime movie) it has ragdoll physics rigid bodies and even some fluid physics (for blood) but it doesnt "show off" as much as the one in half life 2, maybe thats what they have decided to change that. Actually I wouldnt mind at all if they released the game as it is now, and then release some expansions or mods that make heavier use of the physics or AI. Oh well, I guess is for the better, it doesnt look like half life 2 isnt shipping anytime soon neither. So Im going to miss those two by xmas, is just not going to be the same without them. Oh and dont consider this as flamebait or something but come on people, I mean yes, Doom 3 is about shooting monsters around in dark alleys, yes it has been done a 1000 times everybody and their sister has played that. It doesnt matter, Doom3 features the most realistic graphics and psychological horror effects ever seen. It may sound silly but in this particular case graphics DO make the difference (combined with good tempo and real time movies and sounds) they create a realistic ambience of fear and dread. I saw the E3 demo and it puts the entire silent hill series to shame. Actually this is the only game which has caused me to feel physically disgusted by the disturbing scenes (no I didnt got fps sickness). It is that realistic, truly horrifying, wait and see. So if you are not interested just because it plays exactly like good old doom guess what? it is doom! so no one cares ( at least no doom fan that is)
