an infringement of God's copyrights and

that's merely instrumental -- what they
want is your *money*; if they could get
people to just send a check every month
they would instantly stop making tv shows.
I want artists who get paid to do some work,
produce a show, or whatever and not expect
that they can milk the public for it forever
more...
there is no over-riding public benefit to
the syndication of television shows, the
production of which has long since been paid
for.

As I understand it the current law makes it
legal to *copy* (or to have copies) of music
files for personal use. It does not make it
legal to distribute such copies if the work
is copyright. So I think being a kazaa freeloader
is probably legal in Canada (until the law
is "fixed" of course).
the scumbag from SCO neglects to mention
exhibit D, the amendment to
the contract with IBM that makes the
license irrevocable (of course SCO can
still sue for various damages...)
Don't forget "Exhibit D",
an amendment to the contract Stowell mentions:
Exhibit D is an agreement between IBM and SCO, signed on 2/5/[19]98.
1. No Additional Royalty. Upon payment to SCO of the consideration in the
section entitled "Consideration", IBM will have the irrevocable, fully
paid-up, perpetual right to exercise all of its rights under the Related
Agreements beginning January 1, 1996 at no additional royalty fee. However,
if IBM requests delivery of additional copies of source code of the Software
Product, IBM will pay the fees listed under Section 1(b) of Soft-00015
[exhibit A] Supplement No. 170. Notwithstanding the above, the irrevocable
nature of the above rights will in no way be construed to limit Novell's or
SCO's rights to enjoin or otherwise prohibit IBM from violating any and all
of Novell's or SCO's rights under this Admendment No. X, the Related
Agreements, or under general patent, copyright, or trademark law.
So IBM have an irrevocable license, but SCO can stop IBM from infringing
SCO's patents, copyright or trademarks.
Someone should tell Stowell to tell the "whole truth and nothing
but the truth" -- and maybe -- soon -- someone will!

I don't think that is quite right. In Canada
it is illegal to distribute copyrighted
material. So *sharing* files via some p2p
system is illegal. But copying them for
your own personal use seems to be ok (by
the Act you mention).
this is murky however since the law did
not envisage napster or kazaa. It will
likely be "fixed" soon.
Because diplomacy and military action didn't work. We took the Marines out of Lebanon after the bombing. Diplomacy was not functioning. And Reagan wanted action. And Casey [cia director] went off the books on his own, and worked it out with the Saudis to pay two million dollars to get...people to build this car bomb that killed eighty innocent people in Beirut [in 1985] and not Sheik Fadlallah.
Some leash -- didn't seem to stop the cia
from setting up the terrorist car bombing
(assassination attempt) in Beirut in 1985
that killed more than 80 innocent civilian
bystanders.
we need to store it only for at most a couple of hundred - the technology available then will make disposal trivial
Or is your argument based upon our civilization crashing and burning in the next 100 years?
think about this: "buy nothing day" is logically equivalent to "earn nothing day"
(just putting off buying something by a day doesn't count!)

copyright should last for five years
That's not funny
