  1. At least you had a real candidate on Do You Tell a Job Candidate How Badly They Did? · · Score: 0

At least the guy you interviewed was an actual candidate who may / or may not have wanted a job with your company.

I keep my resume up to date on the net. It gains a little notice now and then. Yesterday I received an email from a recruiter telling me he found my resume and I have great skills that may meet two positions he has open. For a moment I was confused. Because the recuiter works for the company I've been working for since July 2006.

I read the job descriptions and wondered, if he read my resume (which he said he did), couldn't he see I'm currently working at the same place he does? And when he asked "are you looking for a permanent position". I wondered if I could bash him up side the head with foam bat. Uh..I have one. At the same company you're recruiting for.

It seriously gives one pause to ponder the level of common sense left in the world today.

I say if you want to give feedback to a candidate at the end of the interview, do it. Maybe you'll save some other interviewer from losing his senses and looking around his office for a bat.

  2. Gift Tax on Paypal Won't Release Funds To Slain Soldier's Family · · Score: 0

The funds (if truly given to the soldier's family) would be classified as a Gift. According to the IRS:

Q: What is the gift tax?

The gift tax is a tax on the transfer of property by one individual to another while receiving nothing, or less than full value, in return. The tax applies whether the donor intends the transfer to be a gift or not.

The gift tax applies to the transfer by gift of any property. You make a gift if you give property (including money), or the use of or income from property, without expecting to receive something of at least equal value in return. If you sell something at less than its full value or if you make an interest-free or reduced-interest loan, you may be making a gift.

Q: Who pays the gift tax?

The donor is generally responsible for paying the gift tax. Under special arrangements the donee may agree to pay the tax instead. Please visit with your tax professional if you are considering this type of arrangement.

Some one will end up paying taxes on the money collected. The IRS doesn't care who collected it, where it was collected, or how long it was frozen before it was dispursed. They will get their cut.

My husbands PC is in a loft that over looks the living room. The living room is usually where I am with my laptop. We can see each other through the banister, and occasionally talk in IMs. Not because we're lazy, or antisocial, but because it becomes an easy way to "talk" without making noise and waking up our 7 month old baby.

If it were up to the safety nazis, we wouldn't drive - it can cause death. We wouldn't buy food from the grocery store - buying the wrong things can cause death. We wouldn't have sex - it can cause death. We certainly wouldn't eat at McDonald's, Burger King, etc - it can cause death.

We would all be sitting at home, no wait - more accidents happen at home than anywhere else, it can cause death. So we'd be sitting at work over our computers - no wait, that can cause eye strain, back strain, muscle and bone problems, not to mention stress. That can cause death (albeit if someone goes postal).

Someone needs to tell the safety nazis - life causes death. It's inevidable. Life it to the fullest while you can. If that means you chose to be a veggan, so be it. But damn it I'm having steak and potatos for dinner! So get out of my kitchen!

  5. Re:Conservative? on Bob Barr Weighs In On Trusted Computing Group · · Score: 0
It amuses me greatly to know Bob Barr is working with the ACLU on anything dealing with civil rights. Especially after his many attempts to end the rights of others who don't agree with his "moral" code.

When fire-breathing Rep. Bob Barr called for President Clinton's impeachment before anyone had even heard of Monica Lewinsky, critics called it a witch hunt.

In August 1997, Fort Hood near Austin, Texas, became the first military outpost to sanction the practice of Wicca (a pagan denomination of Witchcraft). Since then, at least five other installations have followed suit. Among them: Fort Polk, La., Fort Wainwright, Ark., and Kedena Base in Okinawa. Freedom of religion does extend to our military troops.

But Bob Barr disagrees. "This move sets a dangerous precedent that could easily result in the practice of all sorts of bizarre practices being supported by the military under the rubric of 'religion,'" he wrote in a letter to military officials and congressional leaders.

So this man who claims to be fighting for civil rights on one hand, has tried to end those rights for the very people who are fighting to protect those rights with their lives. And I'm supposed to believe what he's doing now is for our rights? ....placing a steal shield over my behind....I think I'll just sit back and wait to see how he plans on using this to screw usb all.
